I was just wondering what works the best for guys here. Do you have a better workout with a gym parner, or does your workout go better when its just you and the weights?

My workout goes faster alone, but I have more fun and competition with an accountabilibuddy.

Workout always goes better with a buddy or a group. Yeah, you may tend to socialize a bit more, but the natural competitiveness that occurs in the group dynamic more than makes up for it. No one wants to be the weak link in the group. Plus, you can always push the limits when you have someone to spot you.

Whether you're driving a race car, riding a bike, climbing a mountain, or doing squats, or even programming a computer, you always perform better when you can stay focused on a singular goal.

It's always best to get in, get out, limit the distractions, and get the folks who really aren't into it out the way, and out of mind.

High level athletics is very much about focus and discipline and it's nearly impossible with a bunch of bimbos anywhere around.

Depends, there have been times where I've worked out with someone else and I felt I pushed myself harder and times where I didn't.

I workout by myself, and ask for a spot whenever I need one. I stay more focused working out solo. And I get through my workouts quicker.

Group workouts are a bad idea. Don't do it if you're really serious about getting results.

    I have done both.
In the end, i agree w/chuckystud.
I only have about 40 minutes on the floor and get much more done without someone there to slow me down. If i need a spotter, i ask someone. I am a competitive guy and agree that a little competion is a great motivator so i sometimes pick a guy w/a similar build and compete against that person without trying to appear as a stalker - for the most part, i succeed. Other times, i just tell the person that i am competing againt him.

If we share the same fitness goals and motivation level, a workout buddy is great. If not, I accomplish more on my own.

I like to workout with a buddy, especially with something I don't know a lot about. However, I tend to do much better on my own. It's nice to workout with others though.

so I work out alone and I like it that way but I'm a loner anyway so could be a massive reason hehe

i don't work out with weights but it'd be nice to have a partner to run ladder pushup/pullup/piston sets with

competition does force you to find your limits
(and make the other guy feel like a pussy)

I go best alone. I do a lot of strip sets, amongst other weird stuff and my partners usually quit cause its too hard or they piss me off case they are bitchin the whole time. Waahhhh. Anyway, I think if you are just getting into weightlifting, its best to have a partner to help you out and motivate each other until you get the desire to keep it up. Those dumbbells and barbells can be a little swimmy until you grow some stabilizers.

Yeah, not a big fan of workout partners. If your into building size, there should only be a limited time between reps. One bb told me max of 45 seconds. Who knows, everyone has opinions, but I know mine are short.

You cant do that with a partner.

Ive many gym friends. We spot each other when needed.
