For those of us that come off as masculine and straight (eg i hate fashion, decorating, im obsessed with sports), what gives you away as a gay person?

Mine is that there isn't one madonna song I don't like. icon_cool.gif.
And I thoroughly enjoy sex and the city.

Um, that would be a dead "very obvious" give away for me... for any guy who likes Madonna & Sex in the City = GAY!!!! LOL
    come on...

However your question is a good one... what you are really asking is,
what physical or behavioral characteristic might make one wonder....

For me is because I'm too neat.. both in dress and how I take care of things.
Not married + too neat and too perfectionistc with his clothing... um..
    = yeah, good guess.

Yeah, but the point is that in daily life (work, school) people don't know these things. I come off as straight, people are surprised to learn I'm actually gay, that's my point.

It's not meant to come off as offensive or anything.

Nope and I would agree that would be the perception with me. My point above is that unless they knew you were a Madonna lover (btw, half the straight guys out there are) and many like "Sex in the City" they wouldn't know. I took your question as.. what habits or behaviors give you away.

For me its the fact that I'm obsessive about being neat. Also, whenever my friends and I go someplace, like to eat at the restaurant i work at, they usually give me away...see they can be a bit "flamboyant" at times. I don't care, i love them as they are.

I wish I were naturally flamboyant at times, it would make it a bit easier i think...icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't understand how the absence of stereotypical labels somehow makes a guy feel more manly (or in this context "more straight")... Masculinity has many forms, and it has very little to do with deep voices and tailgate parties...

I've met purse carrying, make-up wearing dudes more manly than some football jocks...

It's not about "feeling manly." It's how you're perceived by others. Yeah, it's heavily based on stereotypes. Whether or not you agree with those stereotypes, they do exist in society.

Not sure, some of my music maybe, but the rest is alternative or rock. It might be that they have never seen me with a another girl, well three tops, but that was high school. I'm pretty much straight acting... My friends are actually surprised when i told them, it just blows their minds.

I tattooed "QUEER" on my forehead. Oh and if the opportunity presents itself I will make a gay joke about myself to give people the hint.

    I like musicals.

When guys get into my car, and Little shop of horrors comes on, they figure it out.
