Question for the Austin folks.

I'll be in Austin in August for a wedding. I've only been to Austin once and that was for a day of business. I have two nieces there and they both talk fondly of the place but I'm not looking forward to the heat. I've noticed it is consistently 10 to 15 degrees hotter than Charlotte and to my surprise the humidity is the same. According to the weather channel, both cities have a maximum day humidity of around 50% compared to 30% for Phoenix and 75% for Miami. I use to live in Miami and you don't know humidity until you've spent a summer there.

My sister set up a boat ride on Lake Travis from 2 to 5. If it were 6 to 9 I'd be all for it but I'm thinking I won't be able to take the heat. I expect the water is hot and mucky not cold and refreshing in August. She first told me it is cooler there than in Austin but I read that the hill country does not have enough elevation to make a significant difference in temperature. Then she admitted that it is cooler mostly due to a breeze.

I'm thinking I will pass on the boat ride unless it cools off quite a bit. I do think it may be worth checking our Hippie Hollow if I can get an evening free. I figure I could go there at 6 or so. Have any of you been there?

Hate to break it to you stud, but Austin is an anomaly of weather... it's the only place I know where it actually gets hotter as the sun goes down. Peak heat is between 5-9. It's much cooler in the afternoon than it is during the evening. Your sister knew what she was doing when she did 2-5.

But actually the water temperature stays pretty cool...we have beautiful lakes around here, although Lake Travis (where Hippie Hollow is located) is pretty low right now.

Lake Travis stay refreshing during the summer, so does Barton Springs and Deep Eddy since they are both spring fed. Its the pools that are unpleasant during August. Go to Lake Travis.

Thanks all. That is very helpful. The ocean in Miami gets up to 85 in the summer so there is no way too cool off if you're at the beach and it is 90 degrees and humid. If I can jump in cool refreshing water then that is a different story.

LOL.....ok...to be nice....there are many people there who are out of shape but unless you're going to HH to get some action the over weight people shouldn't be an issue. but there also almost as many people there who look good naked and are naked there. Been a few times since St patty's Day and every time the sites were nicere than I expected. Sure beats the anorexic twinks that are there to rink too much and show off thier overly priced swimsuits.

As for the rest of the above suggestions....if you have the time I recomend them too.

I would expect that as it is the case at most nude beaches but I don't really go to nude areas to gawk but to meet open minded easy going folks. If it turns too sexual then the not so beautiful people having sex out in the open can be pretty raunchy. Based on the name I'm expecting more of a peace and love beach with its share of aging hippies.
