Any guys running the Disney Marathon Weekend (http://tinyurl.com/5e79rh)? Wanna talk training and compare notes with a noob? I'm totally up for a few virtual running buds!

Has anyone done it before? What was it like?

Glad I saw this, same weekend we're having the 165-mile SMART Ride down to Key West for HIV/AIDS. I hope we don't lose any bicycle riders or support crew over it, who mostly come from Florida, as well as a good number of US states and foreign countries. I'll discuss it with the planning committee, not sure anyone was aware of this. I'd be interested in this myself if it wasn't a conflict.

I ran the Disneyworld marathon in 2007. Its a great race to take your family too, because of all the peripheral attractions they won't complain! They take you on a bus out to the starting point, you stage up, and start in waves. The first hour is pre-dawn and really fun.

Highlight: the course because you run though backlots, and through empty Disney themeparks. I wouldn't call it challenging.

Lowpoint: the course because you run through backlots and empty Disney theme parks. I wouldn't call it challenging.

A few marathon/disney fanatics like to run the half marathon the day before and run the marathon the day of. They get a special shirt and medal for that, but Disney characters on my shirt are not my favorite image so it didn't seem worth it.

Have fun, and have stop at one of the restaurants in the Epcot center afterwards. I think that was the best part of the race: being with my family eating syrup drenched post-marathon waffles. mmme

    good luck,
    J

Don't listen to Dark, he's a closet Pluto nut. ;)

I really need to get better at running for things like marathons. This thread really put things in perspective when I think to myself that I would rather watch a Disney movie marathon than run one.icon_rolleyes.gif

I will be running the Marathon in January! My goal time is 3:10, but I hope to really push it this year and get under 3:00.

Maybe...if my body can hold up to a 6th marathon in one year. I hope, it sounds like it would be fun.
