Yet another product we can't do without...
Even over 30 years ago I parodied these things on TV, when in Broadcasting class we had to produce and appear in our own 30-second TV commercial, selling any product of our choice. The goal was to learn using multiple studios cameras with hand-held product close-ups, in a tight 30-second format with rapid takes.
I couldn't think of anything that really interested me to "sell," so I decided to sell - nothing. I dressed myself up in a kind of carnival barker outfit, and had a friend take a plain white tie and paint question marks all over it that I wore. Then I carved a 10-inch tall question mark out of construction foam that I held as my hand prop for the close-ups.
I still remember some of the script, which I had to memorize, that went like this, in a fast Billy Mays-like pitch voice:"What is it? Don't ask, I don't know! But whatever it is, I'll bet you need one!
It's portable, it's hand-sized, and you can be the first on your block to have one!
Amaze your friends, confound your enemies, as they try to figure out what it is, too!
Supplies are limited, so act now! You won't find this in stores, available only by mail!"
BTW, I got an "A" for it.
