Dear Erik,

The other side is flooding the Governor’s office with calls to stop Harvey Milk Day from becoming reality. They are opposing SB 572 (sponsored by Mark Leno), a bill that would designate May 22 as an official state day to commemorate Milk’s birthday and lasting impact on California and the world.

Due to the other side’s high volume of calls, the Governor’s office has dedicated a special line for the issue. Now we have to make sure our side is heard.

Please, pick up the phone and call the Governor’s office right now at (916) 445-2841. Follow the prompts to support SB 572 (Leno), the Harvey Milk Day bill. Calling takes less than a minute–you don’t even have to talk to anyone.

Imagine the power of having our state honor one of the most significant LGBT leaders of our time and to keep the hope he inspired alive. Harvey’s life and words continue to inspire people across the state and nation to live openly and to create a world free from prejudice.

Over 30,000 people have signed our petition to Governor Schwarzenegger — adding their personal messages of what Harvey Milk means to them. I’ve been reading the notes and I’m struck by how passionately people wrote. Let’s keep it up. If you haven’t yet, add your name to our petition, and make sure at least three friends do the same.

The other side is fighting hard to defeat this bill. Please, call the Governor at (916) 445-2841 to ask California to commemorate Milk’s legacy.

In solidarity,

Geoff Kors
