For what it's worth and getting back to the discussion:
I've never heard about the missing moon from all fingernail beds associated with HIV infection. And to be honest all my life I have barely had fingernail moons so in my case it's not related to HIV.
The pic below is not of my nail. This appears to be a very healthy looking "moon."
