We have these "car" threads occasionally, but Josh your new, so why not?

I have 3 vehicles.... I have a 2009 Saturn Astra, a 2002 Ranger 4x4 and my first car (which is retired), a 1981 Plymouth Fire Arrow.

I like them, the Astra is more of a work car.

Was told by some lesbian friends that I have the PERFECT "LESBIAN LIMO" a fire red, 2006 Dodge Dakota Laramie, loaded with every toy offered, 4x4, club cab, HO V8.... it is a gas hog, but is very fun, quick and is a head turner.....also have a 2001 Caravan, and a 2004 Chevy Malibu.... not exciting but very practical for people hauling of kids and pets, etc, or having a "spare" if needed.

That's funny. I brought my truck to Australia and was stopped by a lesbian gate guard that said I was driving her dream car!

A '95 BMW 328i Touring, which wasn't available in the states. Driving it back to back with a current generation 3 series exposes just how insulated and inert most new cars have become, unfortunately.

As our everyday vehicles, my partner and I both drive 2009 Infinity FX, me the FX50, him the FX35 We also have a 2008 Nissan Frointier pick-up.
But I also collect motorcars. This is what I have so far:
1958 Bentley S1 (inherited)
1969 Daimler Sovereign (inherited)
1969 Mercury Cougar Convert.
1976 Cadillac Eldorado convert.
1976 Cadillac Fleetwood with only 60K, documented miles.
1977 Pontiac Grand Prix
1977 Aston Martin Lagonda (inherited)
1986 Merkur Xr4ti
They are all fun to drive, but my favourite by far is the 1976 Eldorado conv!!
Cheers,
Keith

2008 Ford F-150 Lariat. Every time I trade my truck in I tell myself I should get a car -- something more economical that gets better mileage -- and every time I drive out of the dealership with a new truck. I honestly can't drive a car. They feel too low to the ground. I would break it in a month. I'm really hard on vehicles. Like in a car you hit a curb, to where in a truck you just drive over them

I think they re-did the Grand Am line for the '00 or '01 models. I'm not yet to 100k and had some issues, including my alternator dying twice, at 30k and at 70/75k miles (first time 2 miles from home; second time 450 miles from home, haha).

I'll keep it around as long as it keeps running.

I guess I'm probably a European car snob. I've owned two Saabs and a BMW.

My second Saab was a very rare, unique, fast-as-hell, bad ass car. It was one of only 188 of its kind. Black on black SPG turbo convertible known as the Springtime in Sweden limited edition. I had it performance modified and it registered 285 hp on the dyno.

If my budget allows, my next move up will be a Porsche, then one day - hopefully - Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Aug 28, 2009 1:06 AM GMT
I drive an American truck. GMC Sierra 4x4 with the extended cab. I know it is a gas guzzler but it is not as bad as you would think. If I drive around the speed limit, 65 in NY, I can get 22-24 miles to the gallon. If I drive at 80 or 90 like I have a penchant then the mileage drops to 18-19. But in the city the mileage can be 13 if I am jack-rabbiting at the lights and NYC traffic.

I love my truck, it has served me well and runs great.

This isn't my truck but it is the same year and model. Mine is polo metallic green with a matching Lear cap

2008 Dodge Avenger. A bad decision as it is really a piece of crap.

You can tell I'm not really a car person as my only priority when looking for a car last year was that I wanted an orange one. This was the conversation with the salesman went like this-

Me- I wanna test drive the orange one.
Saleman- What one is that?
Me- I don't know, I can't tell what kind, its way on the other side of the lot but I can see that its orange.

The whole process took about two hours and I drove away with it.

"Some white people decide to pull the ultimate move. Prius, Apple Sticker on the back, iPod rocking, and Democratic Candidate bumper sticker. Unstoppable!"

Ha! That describes my car perfectly except for the Apple sticker. I did take off my candidate stickers though (now it's just a Gold's Gym and an HRC sticker).

A Chrysler Sebring Sedan with Sunroof. Love the sunroof, esp when it raining, just keep the glass closed and sun shade pulled back and I can hear the water falling on it. Though I love convertibles too, but too much air is not my thing so again opening the sunroof on a beautiful night and just go on a long drive.

I like older classic cars.............and I keep them for a long time.

* 1980 Mercedes Benz 450SL
* 1979 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II
* 1997 Jaguar Vanden Plas

(pix of each in my pix group here on RJ)

If all three of these got stolen or burned up in a fire - I'd consider getting replacements for each one...........that's how well they've performed all these years.

2001 GMC Yukon SLT and a 1995 Chevy Suburban. Big monsters. Gas guzzlers, I guess. But I have also created a life where I work from home, so no commute and thus no wasting and burning 40 miles roundtrip of fossil fuels everyday. I may not drive a Prius, but I burn less fuel per day than any Prius owner. I may go 3-4 days without driving at all, and when I do it is 15 miles max. So, I am a very green SUV owner.

For short trips I ride my bike or walk.

2006 Ford Focus ZX5. It's practical, gets great mileage, incredibly dependable, and it's a Ford. I've always had Fords, except one honda prelude - I hated it! I do like some honda cars, but nothing beats a Ford in my book.

I am looking at an FX50, but I am worried about cargo space. My current car can handle 4 sets of clubs in summer and a hockey bag in winter, I cant imagine the FX can handle that, the cargo area looks so small.. what have you found in your experience?

I have an Acura TL and my first car is in storage, an 87 Camaro

I don't own an FX, but the last time I looked at it (2002), the rear cargo space was pathetic. And that was with the seats folded down. I think they increased the cargo space on the newer models, but I'm not sure if it's big enough to hold all your sports gear.

Sorry, I just noticed that I never responded. Cargo room...if you put the rear seats down there is plenty. Why worry about that anyway? How many people in your family? The rear seats fold down at the push of a button. It's really a non-issue. If you are really concerned, then also buy a pick-up truck. That's what we did.
What really attracted me to the FX was it's exterior looks and it's performance. It is one of the best designs I have ever seen on an SUV.

Keith

Working as an Estate Manager I am very lucky to choose from several cars to drive...and the best part is I don't have to pay for them.

2008 Bentley Flying Spur
2008 Bentley GTC
2008 Lexus RX350h
2005 Mercedes S600
2005 H3

I enjoy driving all of them...but then again I'm a huge car person.

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am coupe, it's got keyless entry...no power windows or mirrors. And on top of that, it just rolled over 173,000 miles. I got over having the nicest car in the parking lot. Trying to keep up with people gets really old. This happens to be my 15th car since I turned 16, and I'm only 23.
