Swimming for HIIT Cardio?

What's everyone's thoughts on doing swimming instead of running for HIIT? I've always heard swimming burns more calories, so now that I have access to a pool, wouldn't it be a better fat-burning workout?

normal swimming training IS interval training. However, you should know that swimming is only said to be a better calorie burner because most people do it really badly. You can use it for HIIT, therefore, but just be careful that you donĀ“t drown. (serious point: if you push it too hard and are not experienced at swimming you might be putting yourself in a more risky position than if you were just on a spinning bike)

I can swim--I don't really do any specific stroke, but I can swim...
