Your First Date: Was It Better Than You Ever Imagined?

Ever since that Valentines Day about four years ago I've been becoming better and better friends with a friend of mine. Ever since he asked me to be mine on Valentine's Day (to which I nervously replied "maybe"...).

We've been pretty good friends, we hang out often, play basketball, go swimming, and play games together within our group of friends. Whenever we're next to each other he often rubs my shoulders or biceps and, if space allows, we'll even put arms around each other side by side. Then, last year a day before I was supposed to go away for college, he was dropping me off at my house after we'd spent the day hanging out with our friends. It was night time and I was already missing him, even though I hadn't left yet. When we got to my driveway, turned to him and I thanked him for the ride and said goodbye. As I prepared to open the door and leave he said, "I love you, Ryan."

It kinda caught me off guard but I smiled back at him and replied, "I love you too."

That was pretty much the last time I saw him, except for cheap holidays and stuff.

All this time I never had the courage to take some initiative, even though it's pretty clear that the feeling might be mutual here. Until I finally mustered up the courage to call him, allowing the following conversation to take place:

    Me, "Hey Steven"

    Steven, "Hello? Is this Ryan?"

    Me, "Yeah"

    Steven, "Hey Ryan, what's up?"

Me, "Nothing much, what about you? What are you doing?"

Steven, "I'm just at my house--"

Me, "Hey, you know the new Harry Potter movie coming out? Do you wanna go watch it?"

Steven, "What? How, do you have it already?"

Me, "No, in theaters. It's not out yet though, it comes out on the 15th of July. Do you wanna go see it?"

Steven, "Sure! So it's a date?"

Me "Yeah, I guess so..." (If he could see how red my face turned... icon_redface.gif )

    Steven, "Cool--"

Me, "Okay then, I'll call you later about ticket details and stuff. See ya later, Steven!"

    Steven, "Okay, bye Ryan"

It's going to be my first date ever and I'm extremely pleased, to say the least! Can't believe I actually managed to ask him...

Yes, I know this has nothing to do with most of you. I just felt good enough to contribute something besides my usual. Since this is a forum I guess I should ask, what were your first dates like? Were you nervous, excited, etc? Are you still together and, if not, how/why did it end?

Well, in all honesty, my first date was my only one with a girl; we went to an old-time movie theatre and then got a pizza. It was a much better date than many I've gone had with guys.

My first date with a guy was rather disappointing--he was very pessimistic about basically everything other than that the restaurant served real butter with the bread. He also clearly had a massive crush on one of his friends that he was trying, and failing, to get over. Nice enough guy, but not a good date.

Thankfully, there have been some better ones since.

The guy I'm currently seeing and I met through a friend and had been calling and "talking" for about a month before we actually went on a date. Then, this past Sunday evening, our hectic work schedules finally freed up at the same time and we jumped at the opportunity.

That night ended up being one of the best in my life. We went for coffee and then he happened to know of a trail that winds through the woods and houses between the homes in a historic part of town. We talked for three hours straight while wandering through nature under the moon -just the two of us. We laughed, we got to know each other, and, most importantly, the silences were never awkward. All in all a fantastic date, better than I could've imagined.

I can't seem to shake the romantic atmosphere (or HIM) from my mind no matter what I do which is a good thing to say the least!

Do you mean our first date with old boyfriends or the current one? Well - I have some very good memories - - - - but as for the new b.f. the first date will happen next Saturday - when I pick him up at the airport........and then take him home for uh - - - - - well, you know! He lives in another state - and so we've been burning up the phone wires - several hours every night - and sometimes twice a day........countless calls. The first actual date will be awesome - to say the very least.icon_cool.gif

Last week I asked two guys out...one guy from my hockey team who had he messaged me on Gaydar (when I used to have a profile) coz he thought I was hot; and another guy I met at a conference.

    Both said no.

I haven't had a first date in a looooong time.

I do wine and dine myself every night though icon_biggrin.gif

I've never been on a first date knowing that it was a first date.

I'd been on 3 dates with my current boyfriend before I knew that he 'liked' and that we were dating. (I would like to point out here that there hadn't even been a kiss before that point).

Have fun on your date, let us know how it goes.
