I had described a recent scene in the locker room at the YMCA and a friend of mine said, "thats being cruised".. I assume that was a more subtle way of "being hit on".... His comment, "there can be a difference"..

    Whats yours?

guy comes up, starts chatting, flirts a little, makes you laugh, smiles at you.. stuff like that.. thats being hit on

watches you, makes eye contact, trys to keep you in view.. thats cruising

    at least to me..

    I like being hit on

Cruising is the lame mans way of trying to get the other guy to make the move..

and I'm probably completely wrong with it all but eh

To me, being 'hit on' means someone is attracted and interesting in you, even if it's just for the night. Being 'cruised' means "hey, are you gay too? I don't want to know your name, just suck my dick here in the stall."

To me being hit on means being talked to with a strong intent for sex. Being cruised is when someone is showing interest from a distance.

This is just a wild guess...

But I think "being cruised" means someone has been marked by the cruiser/chaser/whatever-you-wanna-call him as the one they want. It's probably done at a distance with no confrontation between both parties. The person of interest may or may not know, depending how the other person behaves. Basically stalking the prey.

But if you're being hit on, there is a confrontation between between both parties. It can be subtle or explicit. And it can be done with Verbal and non-verbal communication

    I dunno. Just a guess.

Being cruised is more subtle. Mostly body language and eye contact. Being hit on is more direct and involves more verbal exchange.

Being hit on is short and sweet, like "hey, what's your sign?.....oh, the bird, okay, buhby." Being cruised is prolonged like "that guy is staring at me, yep...he's still looking...I wish he'd blink."

To me it's simple: Being cruised is the same as being checked out - like across a room or out in public or at a party - even in the office.

Being hit on is when he actually has the balls to come up and talk to me - and even can include asking me out.

I guess for me being hit on is a request for sex, being cruised was non verbal that you may or may not notice. Interesting to get input..

I agree with those who say being cruised is being checked out, and may include a word or two, or just observing you from a distance.

Being hit on means he's picked you out and is trying to get you to join him, for anything starting with drinks and a dance, all the way to bed.

I think of cruising as passive & low-key window shopping, hit on as more aggressive & purposeful, where you wanna try the product out.

IMO, jockbod and redvespa have the correct definitions.
