When I first watched his youtube videos his voice confused me.His ability to master the low as well as high pitches sounds more like a woman singing than a guy. Regardless I find his voice to be very impressive.

What do you guys think, amazing voice or an acquired taste?

(As you can see I'm bored lol)

You can hear at around 2:00 that after holding his vocal cords so tight to sing high, he had difficulty relaxing them enough to lower his voice again.

But it is phenomenal that he can hold them so tight for so long.

I never noticed until you mentioned it lol maybe it's not as easy as he makes it look.

Yeah, it's amazing how diverse he is

This is a perfect example of what you mentioned about his normal singing voice and then switching to woman vocals.

Yeah that's the one hiccup I always notice when I listen to it. Still very very cool. AND pretty impressive putting himself out there knowing there will be quite a few people who aren't going to like it.

I guess I'll be the sour note on this one. Personally, I've never been much of a fan of falsetto. It's one thing when a boy's voice hasn't yet changed--if he knows what he's going, he can properly support the high notes. But after puberty, notes above a G should pretty much only ever be hit by women, or else you're going to get that really breathy sound (which, incidentally, is the main reason I think Sarah McLachlan is a much better songwriter than singer, and why I wish she'd employ a better singer to record her songs)..

I also don't care much for his phrasing.

Still, it is impressive how high he can go, even if I'd rather not listen to it.

OK, I've only watched the first video, and it's apparent he's lip-syncing. Maybe it's his (voice) recording, but the syllables and lips/jaw/breathing don't always match in the video. What's the scoop?

I think he's talented, but only to an extent. He's pretty much flawless when he sings in his male register, but the musicality problems hit when he tries to do the girl's voice. He can't seem to constrict his chords for a full bar, so half the time he sounds spot on and the other half he's pitchy as hell by changing register because his chords can't hold that voice. it's a neat trick, but I prefer his regular style.

I am amazed. I was ROFL. It's freaky when he sings the female part. Thanks for sharing. He's talented. One of my friends says he's a counter tenor.

He's also a great animator, currently working for Pixar.
I love that he combined his two passions in his Senior Animation Thesis, an animated short called 'Fame and Fortune'.

Profoundly annoying. I think he's a castrati - lost his balls years ago.

I believe the term for that voice is counter-tennor. Quite rare, and impressive..

Not quite, but very close. He's got a phenominally huge range with a great support structure...but he has a strong falsetto which gives it that female sound closer to the top. Unfortunately, he clearly flips into his airy falsetto at the top as opposed to a supported headtone. He'd only be considered a countertenor if he didn't flip but continued to support himself up there (which he IS capable of doing) but he'd lose the 'female quality' he's going for. He's very talented at this though. Good for him! This is the first time I've heard him and I'm impressed.
