Very simply, How do you send a message to a guy on this site? Not technically, but what do you actually say to them?

You come across a persons profile, think they're interesting and want to strike up basic conversation, what do you write to them? Maybe the solution is just so simple, I can't see it (it wouldn't be the first time.)

    Any help is appreciated.

Start by filling out your profile, because before someone will reply to a message they will look at you first!!

Ah hell just email the person -- compliment them (whatever) and say hello. Don't get too wordy.

...besides, a recent poll shows most RJ'ers are in to Ignoring emails - so nothing ventured nothing gained, something ventured soon ignored.
Or if you're lucky - an "email-conversation" may ensue, you get married, have a few kids until one day and penquin dies and the bastard leaves you for another burrow.

    ...does that help?

Note my clever transiton and incorportation of other forum subjects in my response. icon_wink.gif

In all seriousness, go for it bro! Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Say what you'd say if you were talking to them in person.
Having lines or cliche greetings you use on everyone won't get you anywhere.
You have to custom what you say for the individual. Reading a guy's forum posts can give you an idea of what might be their personality or interests so you have a foundation for what to say.

If a guy doesn't post, read his profile interest and "about me".

I agree. I have seen this be a consistent whine from a fraction of RJ OPs who complain about being ignored. They want the option of picking and choosing guys they'd like to chat with, based upon interesting text in the profile, and/or hot pictures, but they don't want the object of their targetting to have the same courtesy.

It's so obvious, that it is hard to take these complaints and requests for advice seriously. I think it is symptomatic of the tendency of some to blame the outside world for everything that makes them unhappy.

But just in case I am being too grouchy towards the OP, here's my suggestion:

    1a. Post pictures.
    1b. Get verified.
    2. Have a profile so that whomever you write can evaluate you, and decide if you are really serious (to the extent it is possible on an internet site like this).
    3. Read the profile of the person you are emailing. Be responsive to it...in other words, show some damn interest in the other person, so that he can have some evidence that you're not some self-absorbed twit or a poser doing carpet-bombing responses to profiles of "hot" guys.

I agree with some of the above - if you dont have a pic, people will ignore you.

I dont message guys directly, mostly because they all live overseas icon_sad.gif I did message one guy who lives in Sydney but he never responded.

From experience, if I receive a message that's limited to "Hi" or "How are you?", then the answer is probably going to be "Hi" or "Good, and you?" If you want a higher liklihood of a response when you message a guy, then ask something that's going to elicit a conversation. E.g.:

"Hi, great profile you have there. I noticed that you say in your profile you play [insert sport here]. I really love playing [insert sport here]. How long have you been playing?"
