At the risk of turning RJ into a travel guide... I'm leaving for Paris on Saturday where I'll be spending the weeks coming up to Christmas.

I have an apartment in the south of the city, and would love to hear any recommendations (or warnings!) about life there..... especially what's not reflected in the tourist guides.... and particularly any cool LGBT establishments like coffee shops etc.

There's a great naked bar called Entre Deux Eaux near the Oberkampf stop on metro line 5. I'm in Paris and can tell you about it. Or you can go to their website: www.barentredeuxeaux.com

I am really jealous. My partner and I spent about 9 Christmas/New Year holidays in Paris. If you're in the mood to do something Christmassy, go to the chamber music concert at Sainte-Chapelle on Christmas Eve. The chapel should be seen in any case; it's an amazing testament to the decadent aesthetics of the Lawd Gawd Awmighty.

Eating. I've written about this before here, but don't limit yourself to French food. You can find the best of nearly every nationality of cooking in Paris, from Tibetan to a fusion of Senegalese and New Orleans (at Waly Fay). Have at least one Moroccan meal. One of my favorite meals ever was the rose-petal tagine at Mansouria in the Bastille area.

But my favorite Moroccan overall is Le Souk on Rue Keller. And after dinner you can walk across the street to Le Keller, where Michel Foucault hatched his theories about BDSM. You can get pissed on where Foucault was pissed on. You can get fisted where Michel was fisted. You can do anything but experience ordinary genital penetration. Kiddin'...sort of.

    Carry a lot of money.

Right behind OW, I'm really jealous!

The Marais is my favorite part of town--some really terrific shops, cafes ... and definitely one of the big gay parts of the town.

    Favorite restaurant:

    L'Ilot Vache (The Island Cow)
35 Rue Saint Louis en I'Ile
    PARIS 75004

    Have fun, Paris is fantastic!

I second OW on Sainte-Chapelle: It must be seen. It is some mind-blowing medieval architecture. You are so lucky--even if the dollar is weaker than it has been in seventy years. Paris is totally worth it.

The 4th district (Marais) is kind of the gay center. The 11th (Place de la Bastille, sort of), though, is a lot of fun. It's a good mix of gay and straight. Better clubs.

You shouldn't have any problems, but keep in mind it is a MAJOR city, not unlike New York, London, etc. Take the same precautions you would if you were partying in NY.

    Have fun!

Hey Tiger, I will be in Paris from the 28th thru the 30th of December, it sounds like you will be gone by then. I'm actually visiting London and will be there until the 3rd of January. Any advice guys on a two day Paris visit?
