Does anyone else notice the ads one these forums? Why are there dating sites advertising here with hot women? It's like they're trying to change our minds or something...

Revenue is revenue. If those dating services want to waste their money, let 'em.

It does seem a little odd... you'd think the advertisers would want to appeal to us with things that we'd find interesting.

I'm not sure that RJ actually controls those ads, other than making the space available for sale to certain categories of businesses.....so it may be E-Harmony, Match.com Chemistry or any of the others...... If they help keep RJ up and viable....OK...and like lilTanker said, Firefox and adblocker are great!

    What ads ?
I block them out, just like I do when I'm reading a newspaper or magazine.

I don't see the ads anymore either, but back in the ancient "pre-supporter-feature" olden times, this was one of the more commonly recurring threads. No where near "hair versus smooth" or "is bisexuality real" mind you, but still, probably in the top 20.

To repeat the answer given all the previous times (I'm to lazy to search for the old threads on the typically crappy forum search engine) -- no human is controlling these ads. Computer servers somewhere in the cloud are looking at all the text on each thread's page and performing statistical analysis of which ads might get the most click through on such a page. Like all statistical algorithms, 70-80% of the time, they do a fine job. The other 20-30% looks a little strange to us humans.

During the 2008 presidential election, this question came up every few weeks, as readers derived bizarre plots trying to explain the computer-generated placement of Repub or Demo ads in RJ threads.

Sadly, there is no "secret Republican plot" or anything like that going on. Just a bunch of programmers trying to maximize Internet ad dollars. Quite benign.

Google's Ad Sense Technology isn't flawless, but, does a pretty good job.

I was wondering about that too!

Perhaps some of the guys here are just too straight acting icon_smile.gif

ChuckyStud, I'm not sure the graphical banners are from Google. They seem to be loaded directly in the page's code, which isn't how Google normally operates. The text ads, on the other hand are from Google.

I guess you never know when a closeted straight guy may stumble upon them and realize he can't pretend to like penis anymore.

That and bisexual men like breast.

Google Ad Sense delivers image ads if you tell it to, like those on the front page here.
