Is this congressman suggesting that Obama's mom may have aborted him if abortions were free?

Pretty balls-ey of him to use the President as an example, but i don't think he is suggesting that. I think he is making a point that the the fed govt should not get into business to make abortions easier (financially.) Under the scenario that the current proposed legislation reads, the President's mother and Clarence Thomas' mother would have been eligible if that legislation existed at the time.

I think it is iffy on if he is implying both Obama and Thomas' mother would have done it. It doesn't really matter though as it is a really just a crappy argument. He is asking people to make an emotional decision and not a rational one. It was be as stupid as finding a mother of a serial killer are using that as an argument for the government getting involved. Neither address the argument of federal involvement on it merits or lack there of but rather on emotional ties to individuals.

He is also being disingenuous when he says it is "an incentive". As if there is a mother out there thinking "I wish the government would give me a reason to terminate this pregnancy. Ohh... they will pay for it. Well hot damn I am getting an abortion."

There is certainly a lively discussion to be had about the subject and this video is just a crappy way to go about it.

There are a large number in both the Senate and House that oppose abortion on both sides of the aisle. I do think it very presumptuous to think the President's mother would have made that choice. I don't think that thought ever crossed her mind.
