What's your opinion about those annoying people at the water fountain who make you wait to take a sip of water while they fill up their water bottles? I think common courtesy would allow the sippers to go first and then the "filler-uppers." I was so annoyed yesterday at the gym... because it happened to me like three times.

From the gym pet peeve thread, I think the consensus was that it's pretty annoying. icon_lol.gif

Personally, I don't even bother taking water breaks. I hydrate before I go to the gym. And I chew gum instead. That way I don't waste any time walking back and forth.

If I was filling a water bottle, and saw someone come up to the water fountain to get a drink of water, I would offer to let him get a drink, then I would resume filling my bottle. It's common courtesy, which ain't always common...

Hell I constantly drink water throughout my workout, therefore refilling bottle. However, the only difference is, I do it when no ones at the fountain. If someone steps up behind me, I give 'em the go-ahead to go in front of me. Like mentioned --- common courtesy.

Get a Britta water filter and fill-up before you leave the house, this is what i do. You will save yourself from exposure to both germs and inconsiderate people.

I just wait patiently they got there first and if they do not offer to let me go first no big deal. I drink water after every rep. What I don't like is when these idiots spit in the fountain. >8=(

I don't drink water at the gym when I'm working out, I think it's unnecessary unless I'm thirsty.

However, it is annoying when people insist on filling their water bottle right to the top like they're going to faint from dehydration. I don't think there's much scientific evidence of the benefits of constantly glugging water when you're in the gym or taking exercise.

    Drink when you're thirsty.

the neurotic "have to drink" thing annoys me: you get it in yoga where you SHOULDN¨T be drinking as it messes up the energy. But I do drink when I´m lifting as I want it icon_smile.gif

I let the sippers go first, luckily our gym usually has two water fountains together, so I'll stop filling mine when a sipper walks up so that they get the water pressure as well.

Hey I'm a "water bottle filler uper"..... But fortunately in our gym, there are 2 water fountains.. a little short one and taller one (that most people use). I usually use the less popular, shorter one, so others can use the regular fountain.

I also refill my bottle before it gets empty so it can be refilled quicker.

Thanks for your input... i didn't know if i was getting to be a crotchety old man or just thinking others were kinda rude.

My gym has a few water fountains but spread out. So when I work a certain area I go to the closest fountain... when I see a person getting there just moments before me and begin filling up their bottle, I say "oh, shit" [to myself] and move on to the other fountain.

Wow, are we really that easily bothered? Shit, there are places in the world without working plumbing!

I've never seen the spitting thing, but I did see a woman who had trained her dog to stand up and drink from the fountain near the dock where I row. That's just gross.

Yeah, it's annoying. If someone is doing that on the floor of my gym I'm on (one fountain per floor) I'll just go upstairs/downstairs. It's typically faster.

Too much of a hassle to carry from station to station. I'll get a sip of water from the fountain every so often but for the most part just hydrate when I get home.

when i'm at the gym.. i usually bring a bottle of water with me... but then i drink it... so i need to refill it.... so i will refill it at the water fountain.. i've counted how long it actually takes about 20 - 30 seconds... be patient.. i'm sure you arnt that dehydrated to get your SIP of water..... its really not that long to wait...

If I can lift weights, I can carry a water bottle. Sometimes, if I'm really pushing myself, I'll throw a towel over my shoulder, too. icon_wink.gif

Towel goes over my shoulder too, so that I am not "carrying". iPod is attached to my arm. Water bottle I would forget though and just have to go back and pick up. To each his own.

Silly to be annoyed by people filling up water bottles.

Either someone takes 20 seconds at the fountain once an hour to fill up a water bottle or 4-5 trips of 5-6 seconds each to take a sip. Either wait in line more often for shorter amounts of time, or less often for a bit longer. It all works out to be the same.

Some people may only take 20 seconds, and that's fine. I've seen dudes take a few to several minutes though (the clock is above the fountain at my Gold's, so I have literally seen how long it took... not imagined). Maybe the fountain is just slow, but I'd rather just go to another floor then wait and lose my heartrate if someone isn't considerate enough to just get out of the way for 5 seconds.
