Knee Problem

I posted this in the Running Forum, but am still having issues.

I'm a college student majoring in Musical Theatre, working at a deli. One night, without warming up, I went running and came home with knee pains that lasted for a day or two. When I went running again after about 2 weeks, I felt almost immediately pain slowly coming to my right knee again.

Now, I'm a dancer by day, and on my feet at work most of the night. And I don't have money to head to a doctor right now if it's nothing serious. Does anyone know what I could do to help my knee?

My knee never really hurts when dancing, only when running, though I'm getting more aware of my knee almost daily (paranoia?). I go on winter break in a week or two, and if "rest" is the best medicine, I'll be glad to hear it. But, could it be something more serious?

Until you go get it looked at, you'll never know. If you want the number to a great person in Chicago that can get you on the road to recovery, I can send it to you again.

Because of your activity, you've got to find the money and the time to get it looked at. Until then, rest is your best alternative, but keep in mind that if it's left to heal on it's own the collagen fibers will lay down in a less functional manner than necessary, and you're likely to have worse problems later on in life.

Sounds like an impact injury, although, I'm no doctor.

Over the years, I've met a number of runners that have expressed having the issues you're describing.

STOP!!!! you have to get off your knee now. If you are a dancer it could be very serious. I would ice it right away. If you don't have money to see a doctor a lot of doctors will look at you for free if you ask. (you will have to call a few) Also if they will not look at you for free they will work on a payment plan for you. This injury could affect you for the rest of your life if it is serious and you don't get it taken care of now....
let us know what the outcome is. Good luck
