OK, so having to chug down protein in the morning is a real pain especially when it tastes like rats vomit mixed with milk chocolate. I've been using optimum, but i'm getting tired of the taste. Your recommendations?
Jul 24, 2009 5:30 AM GMT
I buy pure egg white protein powder with no flavor. Then I mix it with fruit juice or a fruit smoothie. You really can't taste it. And it winds up being cheaper. It's also healthier without all the additives.

Optimum Nutrition Rocky Road Flavour - ma have artificial flavours but this is the best of them all!

I have whey chocolate favored protein. I mixed it with water=gross milk=nasty as hell. I mixed it with diet nestea iced tea and it's actually pretty good. Much better than the vanilla flavor and WAY better than any bar I have had

At Large Nutrition has Nitrean (just protein) and Opticen (meal replacement) and both are great... mix smooth, taste good... I tried them after Men's Health recommended them and love it. I have only got the vanilla because I like being able to mix it with whatever to change the flavor a little... banana, peanut butter, etc. But reviews say they are all great.

I don't think they sell anywhere but their web site... Not sure if I can post a link here.. but it's just at large nutrition dot com.

Syntrax Nectar (the "fuzzy navel" flavor's the best)

I use this chocolate flavored stuff from body fortress and it's good in water and milk. I have to stir it with a spoon, though, and a good bit of it ends up just sitting on the bottom of my cup...

What Optimum Nutrition are you using now? I'm using Optimum Nutrition's double rich chocolate right now. It's good, but I think the mint chocolate was better.

I concur, I love the mint chocolate. ON is relatively cheap. I use the 100% whey blend for after lifting.

BSN is also delicious - best tasting by far, however, a bit pricey. But is does have added fiber and healthy fats.

I typically use both. Basically, if you get burnt out on a flavor - change it around. Also, look for quality protein and fewer additives.

I use Wegman's Whey Protein Powder. Strawberry and Vanilla are exellent, but Chocolate is like powdered fecal matter. They actually taste ok in water, but better with milk or in a smoothie.

I may just have to switch though, it looks like this Optimum stuff is cheaper and in a ton more flavors.

Muscle Milk... really?

Hey... its one of the most popular brands for sure. I tried it just recently. From a taste perspective, it left an aweful after taste for me. And fat content... way to high. It left me bloated... I could'nt wait to finish the container.

It left me scratching my head frankly. Im a Sales and Marketing guy, for me it proved my theory that with the right budget, right agency, and correct ad campaign, you can market and sell most anything.

EAS Premium Protein tastes really good. Mixes well with water or skim milk. No chunks or aftertaste.
Aug 03, 2009 3:04 AM GMT
So far, Isopure's chocolate and Vanilla tastes the best.

MRI used to have this cafe (or mocha) that I really really love, but I can't find it anymore.

Natural Whey is the best stuff I've had.
Aug 04, 2009 9:52 PM GMT
I like the stuff without artificial sweeteners. Anyone else notice how you taste them for hours after you drink a shake? I think the Optimum Nutrition stuff is good too. I think the best tasting stuff I've had is Jay Robb's Whey Protein Powder.

Artificial flavors and sweeteners make me gag. I buy pure whey protein isolate and BCAA in bulk from trueprotein.com and flavor my shakes with coconut milk, maple syrup, fruit concentrate, cocoa/instant coffee, etc.

I use Whole Nectar soy protein. I hate the taste of just about every other kind of protein powder, and theirs is made with the whole soybean.

Without question...the best tasting protein powder is Champion Nutrition Pure Whey (I like the chocolate flavor).

It mixes easily, does not make slugs (slimy protein powder chunks)...it does not taste like gak (in fact tastes like Nestle Quick)...and when you mix it it does not have the consistency of liquid pudding that you have to choke down (for that reason I have to say that Met-RX is by far the most damn awful crap ever invented!!!).

I have found the CN in double scoop packets (46 grams protein) for less than $1.00 per serving (including shipping) online. They have tons of flavors, and if you buy the packets you can also get a mix of flavors.

If you want to know where I get it from ask me...I'll give you the link.

that sounds good...i might try that. I usually use Optimums Nutrition strawberry and loved it. BSN's banana Synthax (sp?) is awesome !!!

I recently went the cheaper route and bought a big bad of EAS vanilla from sams...and I hate it...i can drink it but I hate vanilla protein anyway...I have always bought strawberry and never tire of it. I usually add some fresh frozen berries to it and its good., its taken me forever to get through this nasty ass bad of vanilla shit though.

I use Entrenet's Whey Protein....it's incredibly good tasting. It's sweetened with natural Stevia ( a sweet herb)...the vanilla is great! I put in about 1 cup of Almond Breeze in stead of milk in a blender ... add a little water...2 scoops of the protein....blend that together with any fruit and add ice to make a shake type thickness.

IT IS GREAT!

Muscle Milk Cake Batter, Chocolate Caramel, Cookies N Creme, Brownie Batter. I have not met a better tasting protein powder
Aug 07, 2009 10:51 PM GMT

^^Tastes great! It's nice and creamy.
Isopure also tastes great. I've tried strawberries and cream and milk chocolate. ..Just stay away from the Low-Carb alternative. Those are not so good. ON Fruit Punch is horrible.

Jay Robb's chocolate flavor tastes good. They use Stevia instead of Sucralose or Aspartame.

Also, blending your protein powder with a banana, ice, and peanut butter improves the taste. I often just mix mine in with cereal.

I'm a huge fan of MRI PRO NOS and BSN. Because of financial reasons, I've decided that ON 100% Whey is the best way to go for me. I buy it by the 10lb bag and it's pretty good quality for the price.

I took paradox's advice a while back and ordered from trueprotein. I greatly prefer their stuff to anything I found in my local supermarkets or GNC, and it's a lot cheaper as well.

Also key: using a blender, rather than trying to dissolve with a spoon.

I just switched to ON 100% Oats and Whey....delicious! Mix the chocolate flavor with cold milk and you have a creamy milkshake.

Have not tried Isopure yet.

Isopure has more of a chemical aftertaste than ON, I think.

ooohh, this sounds good. I've never had protein powder and am still looking through alternatives conducive to lean eating. This sounds like a simple and tasty idea.

Usually add it to smoothie, with some fresh fruits. So can keep changing the flavour anytime needed too.

Depends what's available in your area I guess. I Canada, the best tasting and most muscle building if Six Star Muscle Fuel or Muscle Milkshake.

To me whey tastes like a decomposed corpse. No amount of flavoring can disguise it, so I take a vegan blend instead.

I love their products.

They have protein shakes which are very good.
Energy protein bars tastes great

Powder protein whey van or choc...comes in pre measured envelopes...mix with 4 to 6 oz of cold water or milk.....No complaints here on the taste...

(it actually makes me horny after drinking it)

I've found Beverly Nutrition (www.bevnut.com) to have the best overall flavor... As far as O/N goes, just depends on the blend and flavor - they sell so many different proteins - as far as price goes, it's a decent buy - but gotta find something that works for u.

I know what you mean. The taste is so awful. I keep searching for a good tasting one. After I buy a big tub of powder, however, I force it down even if it tatses terrible, since it costs so much I can't bear to throw it away.

I like Optimum Nutrition as well. They seem to have done a very good job at creating some really palatable protein powders. I usually stick with Vanilla though.

Isopure is good too. It's very easy on the stomach, for those of you that are lactose intolerant. Also, it doesn't contain a lot of gums or other additives that try to simulate the texture/thickness of a "shake". It might take some getting used to at first, but basically it's like drinking protein shake flavored water.
Oct 12, 2009 1:56 AM GMT
I just finished the strawberry variety of BSN's Syntha-6 and it was the best that I've had in a while. Dissolves easily too, which is always a plus. Also I find that using a mix of water and skim milk makes a lot of protein shakes more drinkable.

Of all that I have tried I like Nectar the best.

Here are my two favorite weight gainers.

Now Nutrition - Pro Gainer Chocolate
ISO Gainer - cookies n cream

These two are the healthiest and best tasting of all gainers I have found. As far as protein goes Beverly International is suppose to be great and Muscle Milk is really good too if you use a little less than the suggested amount or a little more milk/water.

Just got 2 MRM products at the recommendation of someone on this site...STOKED ON THEM. No sucralose, aspartame, or any other artificial sweeteners.

No artificial colors, no milk products either....and only soy lecithin, no sot protein.

Always blows me away the amount of garbage in these "health" products.
