I often wonder why some gay men choose to address other gay men with descriptives like "girlfriend," "girl," "princess," and "doll." I know it's not mean-spirited, but as a gay man, I don't think such words are helpful.

Am I old-fashioned? Does it really matter?

    People all said sit down
Sit down you're rockin' the boat.
    People all said sit down
Sit down you're rockin' the boat.
And the devil will drag you under
By the sharp lapel of your checkered coat,
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down,
Sit down you're rockin' the boat.

Used to make my skin crawl, too. But I've gotten used to it and find that 'those' that use that type of phrase are usually the funniest gays around!

A few months after I came out met a group of guys who talked like that and almost went back in the closet, but I got used to it. Still bothers me some tho.
