This week, Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. Joseph Crowley were invited to the White House for a beer with the President and Vice President. They agreed to disagree after a friendly discussion about race.
Now, suppose everything still happened exactly the same way. Suppose all of the circumstances were the same, except one: race.
If Gates had been Hispanic, or Native American, or Asian, or even Middle Eastern, would he still have been invited to the White House for a beer with the President?
I am not racist. I was just wondering. Has this thought occurred to anyone else?
