Hey guys, I'm going on a trip with a few friends in late August to the US and part of our plans is to drive from Las Vegas up to San Fransisco down to LA. Since most of the boys here are from the US of A :-P I'd welcome any advice about the drive i.e.driving times, best places to stay, sights to see. Keep in mind I'm the only gay one and I haven't really told anyone these days i.e S&M gay bars are pretty much out of the question! Let me know your idea's, I'm more worried about driving on the other side of the road so any help is greatly appreciated!

There's already an LA thread that you can look over for ideas.

Driving from SF to LA shouldn't be too bad. Usually it's about a 6 - 7 hour drive, depending on how fast you drive. Taking the 5 freeway is pretty much a straight shot, no frills drive.

If you want to view the scenery of the coastline, you can take Pacific Coast Highway. It will definitely add mileage/time to your trip. Don't take this route if you're in a hurry.

Traffic in LA usually starts up around mid-afternoon. If you can get to the city limits by 2pm, it shouldn't be too bad. And yes, people do drive nuts out here sometimes, so be careful. icon_lol.gif

Although it's longer, try to go from LV to SF via Yosemite.
Also 6 Flags Magic Mtn on the way into LA (am big kidicon_biggrin.gif)

Driving on the wrong side is no problem, been over a few times. Worst was when I panicked in the middle of a multi road intersection & couldn't work out which side of which road I was supposed to go down.

If you like beer then be sure to detour an hour North of SF to the city of Santa Rosa and visit the Russian River Brewery. Excellent beers and great food with live music on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
