How do you adjust your workout schedule if you miss a session?

I'm just curious as to how other people handle this trivial situation...

Let's say you have a regular workout schedule, where you've defined your workout for each day of the week. If you're forced to miss a day, do you do the previous day's workout when you go back in, or do you just move on to the current day's workout?

For example, I do a schedule like this:

    Monday - Pull routine
Tuesday - Cardio (beginning recently, this is HIIT cardio)
    Wednesday - Push routine
    Thursday - Cardio (HIIT again)
    Friday - Legs routine
Saturday - Cardio (HIIT again) - though I admit I skip this one frequently

Let's say I missed Wednesday for some reason. When I go back on Thursday, would you expect the Push routine or the HIIT cardio?

I normally stay "on schedule" and do the routine originally scheduled for that day.

I would just push the schedule a day and instead of taking Sunday (or as you admitted Saturday) as a rest day I would then end the week after Sundays (or Saturdays) workout and restart Monday with the original schedule. That way you got your day off and did all of your workouts for the week.

    Best of luck!

I only work out three days a week. Adjusting is easier. Six days is crazy!!! But good for you if you can keep that up.

instead of labeling the splits "monday, tuesday" etc just name them "A, B, C" or for the OP name them "Push, Pull, Legs"

Lets say I did A [push] Tuesday, Cardio yesterday, and life happened today such that I could not go. Tomorrow will be B [pull]

If you rigidly stick days of the week on them and something happens you might not do that group again for 2 weeks!

I think, via a bunch of advice from this site and great folks......that you should pick up where you left off.

That's what I recall being told from a guy or three here and it doesn't seem to work against me per se. Not getting to the gym is rare though.....I'll go buy gallons of fucking milk to lift if i CANNOT go to the gym and do that shyt in a parking lot, lol.

I feel awful if I don't have a big spike of activity during the day.

For me it all depends on where in the schedule I skip the workout. If I miss my Sunday weights, I can't do them Monday because I have hockey training. If I miss my Wednesday spin class, then I'll try and make it up on the Thursday in some form because Thursday is a rest day.

I don't beat myself up about a missed workout, unless I miss it coz I'm being a lazy ass.

I don't generally try to play catch up, one session missed over the course of a year isn't that much and wont really negatively impact you.

I just skip the day. I tend to overtrain and probably could use the extra day off.
