The right to HC. as it is described my many, not only would cost money, but fundamentally assumes a obligation on others to take care of you. I am not my brothers keeper, and he is not mine. I sure as hell won't be your keeper.

He writes, safely, from a country with universally available medicare.

As Gabriel Garcia Márquez said of his Dr Urbino "it´s easier to bear the pains of others"

What a strange way to view the world. Human beings are social creatures, who live in societies, not in isolation. Universal health care is expensive, but so is the system the USA has now (a patchwork of private, public and no insurance). Matter of fact on a per GDP basis, the USA has the most expensive health care in the world, yet still has nearly 50 million uninsured.

Some countries provide good health care for their citizens at a reasonable price (e.g. Sweden), so it does not have to bankrupt the government or its' citizens.

oh and the title of this typically trolly thread is wrong:

health care is a sign of a civilized society. The language of "rights" is a red herring.

Well, fine Pattison, we suggest you send this post to your government along with a legal document stating that you will pay in full, without subsidy, all health costs, (present and future) incurred by you with cash.

Thankfully, wiser heads than yours are in charge.

I can't believe all these people who don't want subsidized health care, calling it socialism etc. They are first in line to accept Medicare, SS, unemployment benefits, welfare, farm subsidies, etc. Did Obama start all these???
