THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS STATEMENT EVER MADE BY A PUBLIC OFFICIAL LET ALONE BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. AND THIS GUY IS OUR "COMMANDER IN CHIEF?".

    UNBELIEVABLE PRESIDENT???

HERE IS HIS RESPONSE WHEN HE BACKED OFF FROM HIS DECISION TO LET THE MILITARY PAY FOR THEIR WAR INJURIES..

Bad press, including major mockery of the plan by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 million annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty. The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal.

"Look, it's an all-volunteer force," Obama complained. "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn't compute.." "I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country, "Obama continued. "I wasn't asking for blood, just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I'd have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation's deficit. I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans."

How in the world did a person with this mindset become our leader?

REMEMBER THIS STATEMENT... "Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice?

If he thinks he will ever get another vote from an Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard service member or veteran of a military service he ought to think it over.

I'm beginning to really have my doubts about Obama. I thought Bush said some awful things, but this by far has got to be the worst thing a president has ever said. . Remind everyone over and over how this man thinks, while he bows to the Saudi Arabian king.

I'm confused. Americans should have government provided health coverage unless you are actually serving? Then you should have private? icon_confused.gif

OK we did some research. This is a load of bananas - and it happened when Obama was still a senator.

The idea was to have veterans pay into a Canada style heathcare plan with the government running it. Currently a veteran can cancel his private insurance at any time and have the government pick up the tab.

Now you guys are USers, how about some research?

I saw the Daily Show (Jon Stewart) episode that the OP refers to. Basically, Obama had floated the idea that a veteran's current insurer (if there was one) could reasonably be expected to pay a portion of that veterans current medical bills. He feels that not asking them to do this is just giving the current insurer a free ride which they don't deserve, since nearly any problem that develops later in life gets rationalized to be a result of something that happened during military service.

For example, if I have a condition (no matter when/how I developed it), it's my current insurer who pays the bills as opposed to whoever was my insurer when the condition originally developed*. If my condition, in turn, leads to other (new) problems later in life, my insurer at that time pays those bills. But this isn't the case for veterans.

    * = Unless, of course, my current insurer is using that assinine "pre-existing conditions" clause.

Suffice it to say... Jon Stewart did not agree. icon_lol.gif

yeah but he's also 100% right?

what kind of fool signs up for military service in the first place? there's got to be some malfunctioning going on in the noggin, or something real desperate. but if you're all gung-ho about going out there and murdering people, you can't act all surprised and shit when you end up physically and emotionally damaged.

i mean they bring it on themselves. lack of education is not an excuse, violent people want to shoot big guns, and everyone knows where you go to do that with impunity... military
