Fire Island is no different than the Hamptons. It's a place where families frm Long Island and manhattan buy or rent for vacation purposes during the summer.( some ppl do live there fulltime) Having said that I usually frequent Ocean beach when visiting FI, My sisters husbands parents have a house there. There are townships that populate a gay crowd one is cherry grove I think there is another but not sure. I'm sure it's fun tho, but there are no cars eating and drinking restrictions when in the residential areas ( as far as publically) but you can take water taxis to any part of the island....Go and have fun.. come to think about it, it's prob better than Hamptons social outing as eveything is so far frm one another at least 20-30 mins drive for everything.which suxs if you plan on drinking as opposed to walking distance, but socially it's the same. I still perfer East and Bridge hampton over all.

    OK.

Its a beautiful island with great beaches. The Pines part is mostly gay men. The Cherry Grove part has a lot of lesbians. You have to take a ferry to get there.

There are no cars and the "streets" are wooden walkways. Its also a place where you can feel totally safe holding hands with a guy, and never have to look over your shoulder to check the safety factor.

There's something called low and high tea. Just a fancy name for cocktail hour. Low tea starts early evening and high tea starts later in the evening. After a day on the beach, getting back to your place and showering or taking a nap, lots of guys show up for tea. Seeing all those tanned male bodies against the setting sun is pretty impressive.

Then there are a few places to go dancing. Every single stereotype of gay men are there. The queens (nice ones and bitchy ones), dream boys ( snotty and nice too), sluts, pervs, suited guys, regular guys, fun guys, decent guys etc.

The music at the clubs tends to be that annoying screaming diva stuff and sometimes it can hilarious to see the attitudes flying around. But sometimes you catch a great DJ who plays great music and you find yourself dancing around some quality guys....which can lead to other things.

There are restaurants and sandwich shops too and prices are a little high.

At night, it helps to have a few friends to kick back with and enjoy the fresh ocean air and walk around. People have lots of dinner parties too.

Its a lot of fun, but for me, in small doses. Sometimes I feel totally free and easy and other times I just want to start smacking people..LOL
