God invites us to his dinner party

Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank. - Exodus 24:9-11

Imagine that you’ve been invited to a dinner party. It looks pretty neat! The menu contains things which you like to eat. Also the time and the date work for you. But then you come to realize that you don’t know anyone else who’s been invited to the party, and you have absolutely nothing in common with the people who are going. What do you think? Will you still be as excited to go? I’d guess most of us wouldn’t be as excited. After all, what really makes a party fun is being with people we know and enjoy.
Can you imagine a dinner party with God? Wow – hard to imagine that! And at first glance, it’s probably a scary thought! After all, God is perfect, holy and eternal; we’re sinful mortals. What in the world do we have in common with God, or he with us?

And yet God chooses to invite us to his dinner party. God chooses to socialize with us. We read in these verses of the Bible how he allowed the leaders and elders of Israel to dine in his presence. What an experience! He did it in even more wondrous measure when Jesus came to this world and lived our human life. He continues to do it today, promising that he’s with us always, to the very end of time. And he’s preparing a place for us at the eternal “banquet feast” in heaven.

And yet that question lingers: why would God want us at his party? Why would God want ME at his party? I’m a sinner!

Ah, true. But Jesus has saved you. Jesus lived, died and rose, thereby paying for your sins in full. Indeed, the perfect life of Jesus has been credited to your account. And so, guess what? You’re a welcome guest through Jesus! Indeed, you might even think of yourself as a VIP.
And what a conversation you’ll have with all the other invitees! People like David, Mary and Joseph, Abraham and Sarah – all sinners, like us; all saved by Jesus, like us. It will be a great party!

Prayer:
Savior Jesus, thank you for inviting me to THE party, the eternal party. Fill me with longing for the day you take me there. Amen.

I personally have wandered away from the strict christian path, but I still have a spiritual practice.
I think that God and the Goddess love this planet and everyone on it. No matter what we do. So why wouldn't they invite us to dinner.
I personally think that we as humans, and some dogmatic religions, put so much emphasis on doing "what is right" that we fail to see that They-God/Goddess/Great Spirit/etc- love us as we are.

Easy, God as our heavenly father loves us much more than our earthly father. That being said I know that most fathers would never turn their backs on his kids no matter the wrong they have done. If I am in need of food he will feed me, if I am in need of shelter he will house me, and if I am in need of forgiveness he would forgive me. I could only imagine my heavenly fathers love being so much greater that he too would do the same by offering me the bread of life if I so choose to accept it :-)

That's not actually what the Old Testament says, at least according to how ancient Hebrew translates and is interpreted. The actual passage is very dark... What it really says is that they all saw a vision/interpretation of god, and all but Moses and his brothers should not have done so because it was not their place. It goes on to explain that god at that moment spared them because of the circumstance that they were looking at him in anticipation of receiving his word, but went on to punish them all and kill them.

Is the spread Kosher? I'm assuming yes... so let's progress.

I'd go, just to check the digs and bitch about him behind his omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent back. It'd probably get back to him, but he's already aware.

Interesting aspects of the night may include:

- Akward discussion of natural disasters, plague, and pestilence.

- The Palestinians and Israelis get sat next to each other. God finally puts an end to that debate.

- Other Gods exist, weren't invited, and crash.

- Only beings present from our universe or others invited?

- Someone brings up Satan and that whole mess...

- Mistakenly bringing apple pie over shepard's pie.

- Wearing the same outfit as god. (Didn't he forsee this??)

Hmmmm... Yeah, I'd probably have a good time.

God punished them because of their UNBELIEF in the Savior he promised to send and because of their REJECTION of his love to save them through that Savior, born of a woman, born under law, to REDEEM those under law that we might receive the full rights of SONS. (Galatians 4:4) Despite their unbelief in God's promise to send a Savior from a virgin mother, God still fulfilled his promise and the very eternal Son of God, left his eternal throne on high and clothed his divine Godhood in OUR HUMAN FLESH. This is the celebration of Christmas, which the ENTIRE WORLD DESPARETLY NEEDED in order to avoid being eternally separated from God. Because of the perfect and sinless life of Jesus and because he ENDURED THE ENTIRE WRATH OF GOD OVER THE ENTIRE SINS OF EVERY HUMAN BEING on the cross, we now have COMPLETE AND TOTAL FORGIVENESS BECAUSE OF THE AMAZING LOVE OF CHRIST FOR US (yes for us gay men, too). ON THE BASIS OF CHRIST'S WORK GOD DECLARES THE ENTIRE WORLD FORGIVEN OF ALL SIN. However, just as the unbeleivers in the Old Testament are now perishing in hell because of their unbelief and rejection of the promise of the Savior, so today, all who die in unbelief and rejection of God and his only begottne Son, will also perish in hell. ALL WHO REJECT CHRIST'S LOVE IN UNBELIEF WILL PERISH IN HELL NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT SEXUALITY YOU ARE. BUT ALL (str8, gay, and bi) WHO BELIEVE THAT CHRIST DIED FOR THEIR SINS WILL BE SAVED. Since Jesus loved prostitutes and associated with them and ministered to them and even said that they were entering the kingdom of God ahead of the religious clergy because the prostitutes ADMITTED AND CONFESSED THEIR SINS, but the self righteous Pharisees and the religioius teachers didn't think they were sinners and therefore they didn't think they needed this Jesus as their Savior, so they rejected him.in UNBELIEF and so the prostitutes by their faith in Christ went to heaven, whereas the unbeleiving Pharisees and religious teachers perished in hell as Jesus said they wouold because of their unbeleif and rejection of him. Continual persisting in rejecting Christ leads to what is called in the Bible "the sin against the Holy Spirit." And anyone who dies persisting in rejecting Christ as the Pharisees and religious teachers did, will persh in hell with them. This is what Jesus says about rejecting him as your Savio and he means it. Neither str8, gay, nor bi can reject Jesus as their Savior without paying eternal consequences. God has forgiven ALL SIN through faith in Christ, but without any faith in Christ as our Savior, our sin remains. Let us not reject Jesus's love for us by rejecting him in unbelief

The Bible doesn't rate any sins--one being worse than another. It just says that ALL have sinned (all means str8, gay, and everyone in between). We are ALL forgiven by Christ. It makes absolutely no difference what a person's sexuality is because str8's are just as sinful as gays. There is absolutely no difference. Str8's are just as sinful as gays. They have sex outside of marriage, which the Bible also condemns. So whose sin is worse? There absolutely is no difference. One sin is no worse than another and CERTAINLY NOT BECAUSE OF YOUR SEXUALITY. It is absolutely ridiculous to think that the sins of str8's are any better than gays. Where in the Bible does it say that? The Bible just says that ALL have sinned and all have been forgiven in Christ.

If there's one thing I'm against, it's people who take a coherent philosophy and selfishly twist it with their own biases.

Tell me, G, you seem to be a fundamentalist. Doesn''t the Bible also call you to live righteously, to serve God and place his laws above the selfish ones you yourself set? If so, I don't see how you can possibly justify homosexual actions... Have you committed yourself to not engaging in sexual acts with other men?

Unbelief is a sin? Punishable by death or worse? Just because I happen to not believe in something I have NO EVIDENCE for?

That is really, really sick. It's a good thing I don't believe in this being you describe. But the humans behind this idea are sick.

Note: unbelief does not equal rejection. That would be contradictory. How can I reject something I don't believe exists?

OK, this is a total leap of faith that has absolutely nothing to do with this topic (other than the fact the two of us met talking about religious issues)... Can I please get everyone to take a look at a post I just posted under Dating and Relationships entitled "Missing Person(s)"... a friend of mine I met here on RJ is missing, and quite frankly, I'm worried about him. (and if you're the type of person who prays: Pray hard that God will keep him safe!)

Unbelief is rejection. If you don't believe what someone says, whether its your partner or whoever, you are rejecting the truth of their words.
Unbelief is rejection. If you don't believe what someone says, whether its your partner or whoever, you are rejecting the truth of their words.
This is why debating religion with someone is a slippery slope -- "you are rejecting the truth of their words."

We are not talking truth here. We're talking about faith and opinion. I don't take away anyone's choice to believe in God. I do not look down upon them for doing so. But I wish they would do me the same courtesy of not taking away my choice in choosing to not believe in their idea of God and to not look down or condescend upon me.
