    Hey guys,

Jeff from RealJock.com here. Most of you know by now that RealJock.com is an advertising-supported site. Without our (wonderful, gracious, lovely, etc.) advertisers we'd be in a not-so-good place financially.

This December we have a really great advertiser on RealJock.com - Paramount's new movie musical "Sweeney Todd," starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter (my favorite...remember "Howard's End"), and Sacha Baron Cohen. "Sweeney Todd," which opens December 21, is providing a lot of this month's support that keeps RealJock going and growing.

So... if you happen to be thinking about going to the movies this holiday season, please consider going to see "Sweeney Todd." Also, if you happen to know other RJ members in your area, we would be most appreciative if you planned a "Sweeney Todd" outing to show your support for our advertisers. I'll be going on opening night (Dec. 21) in SF, so if anyone in the Bay Area wants to join me let me know.

A bit more about the movie below... And if you don't want to go, that's fine too (no pressure!). If you do end up going, please update your review in this thread. Regardless, cheers and happy holidays!

    Jeff

    MORE ABOUT "SWEENEY TODD"

    depp.jpg

In their latest visual masterpiece, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical thriller "Sweeney Todd." Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge - not only for cruel punishment by the judge, but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street - whose clients begin to disappear.

The cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter as the strange Mrs. Lovett - Sweeney's amorous accomplice, and Sacha Baron Cohen in the role of the flamboyant rival barber, and Alan Rickman (from the Harry Potter films) as the evil Judge who sends Sweeney to prison.

P.S. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are my favorite actors because they are NEVER the same characters twice (minus sequels). And even in the sequel, they develop that character and add so many more levels. It is like they literally take on that character and do fully delete who they are. That is something that so many actors strive for and few ever achieve.

Yay!! A slasher movie for Christmas; just what I've always wanted. I can't wait to hear Johnny Depp sing.

--kidding aside, I am planning on seeing the movie.

Let's see, Helena Bonham Carter vs the incomparable Angela Lansbury?

Okay, okay, I'll reserve my judgement! icon_cool.gif

"Let's see, Helena Bonham Carter vs the incomparable Angela Lansbury?"

I KNOW!!! It will be two 100% Different characters, but I think that Helena will make the character her own and do it justice.

God, I forgot that Mrs. Potts was the baker!! I loved it!!icon_razz.gif

I simply can not wait to see this movie. I practically live for Tim Burton movies, and Burton and Depp have become so intertwined over the years that the movies they make with each other have just become phenomenal. I freaking love Burton's dark visuals.

    Who's excited?

I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS.

WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I SAW THE ORIGINAL STAGE PRODUCTION IN PREVIEWS ON BROADWAY WITH ANGELA LANSBURY AND LEN CARIOU.

I CAN ONLY SEE TIM BURTON TURN THIS INTO A FILM . . .

    I'LL BE THERE !!!

It's really good. Go see it. Great cinematography and amazing production design make it easy to look at. The spraying blood out of people's throats is a bit graphic/amusing since it looks a little like SNL blood at times, but I think its supposed to. Enjoy.

I just got in from seeing it. I didn't see this thread before I went or I would have worn my RJ name tag -- the one that doesn't state my preferred sexual role but does give me the option of saying that I'm looking for hookups, even though though this is not a hookup site.

    But I digress.

I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The movie's not as funny as the stage play but I liked it. I am pretty squeamish about violence but, as french_filmmaker said, the spurting blood is too cartoonish to be very horrifying.

Really, taking someone to a movie about mass murder and cannibalism is a great way to tell them you care in this season of peace on earth.

I love the three of them (Burton, Depp, Bonham Carter), and I'm so happy they have once again a project together.
I will certainly go to see that movie but, unfortunately, it arrives in France only at the end of january...

I saw it last night and thought it was great! Depp and Carter are terrific. I had dinner afterward at a nice DC restaurant. I ordered the meatloaf. I hope the chef hadn't seen it yet, but it was delicious.

I haven't seen it yet. But I did see Angela Landsbury perform in the play back in high school. The drama club went and saw it at a local college. Maybe it was similar to what OW was talking about - it was very comedic.

I love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, so I'm sure it will be good.
