    Hey everyone,

I recently enlisted in the military and I will be leaving for boot camp in about 2 months. I have done a lot of research on what to expect and I have been conditioning myself so I am in tip top shape, both physically and mentally. I have a big concern though. I have had mild acne since I was a teenager, and I still get the occasional breakout. I have a great skin care regimen that I use, and it really keeps my face breakout free. However, I wont be able to take any of my fancy creams/washes with me to boot camp and Im worried Im going to breakout. I know this probably seems like it should be the least of my worries, but I really am concerned.

I am looking for tips on what I can do to keep this under control naturally, be it foods or special concoctions I can make. Thanks in advance guys.

Got to "The Body Shop" store or online and get foaming tea tree oil face wash. It was the best thing I ever did. It completely cleared my acne up and I havent really had any pimples since.

    Try it.

OH and take pics of your fellow military people. icon_twisted.gif

Thanks for the advice, but my problem is that I cannot take anything with me to boot camp. I may give that a try though once i get out though. icon_smile.gif

hmmm I was at marine corps bootcamp and there were some kids in my platoon that got prescribed acne medication...when you get your checkup once you get there, ask them if they can prescribe you acne meds...

Consider the root cause of your acne. For many, the problem ultimately stems from a lot of oil on the skin. If that's your problem, you may have some success just periodically wiping your face off with a tissue or toilet paper.

you will break out... but if it gets too bad you will be able to go to medical and get it taken care of. the military is getting better about feelings and personal space. but you gotta be strong and not act like a sissy, tell your company commander that you need to go to medical and you'll be ok. been there and got the tee shirt.

Have a friend or family member mail the supplies to you, or have a military PA prescribe new medication once you have arrived. Either way, you'll most likely be too busy training or getting dirty from training to care about keeping perfect skin -- at least I didn't. Stress from the initial stages of whatever basic training you're going to might cause you to breakout as well, so just be mindful of that.

Everyone is going to eventually start looking crappy and miserable during basic training, so don't feel ugly by breakouts if they do occur.

Simple straight forward advice. This is why I follow MSU around here.

    This

(or get a prescription with refills before you go (even for over the counter stuff if that's what you're using, have the pharmacy here fill it and keep the Rx with you to fill at the base pharmacy.) I also think that meds/prescription substances will be exempt from the usual "banned" stuff while the DI's "break you down and remake your sorry ass" (their words, not mine)

My advice, you aren't there to look to pretty.

Give yourself some time and the last thing you'll care about is what you look like. Just practice good hygiene, drink lots of fluid and hope for the best.

    For as being successful?

Right place, right time, right uniform with the right attitude.
Its very simply but you'd be surprised by how many people literally can't handle that.

Also know that you will be given an inspection once you arrive at your company barracks and chances are your more topical, scented skin items will be thrown away.

So don't be surprised if it does happen.

LOL. Skin care will be the last of your worries Pumpkin. Uncle Sam will take care of you. In the mean time, eat, get strong, run, run fast. Learn how to shoot straight, and run fast, and don't get killed later. Bullets don't single out ugly folks.

Try the Glycolic Acid Face Wash by Anthony for Men. It's good stuff. http://www.anthony.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.prodshow/vid/389/catid/217 You can buy it at Nordstrom, Sephora, online and probably at other places. It helps control oil and is an exfoliant.

Good luck at boot camp man, hope all goes well.

You will be to busy and to stressed out to worry about your acne problem. If you do have time to visit the PA/DOC/MED Officer then you can relay your problem and they may prescribe you something. I do not advise anyone mail you these products, if they are found during an inspection then they will be confenscated and you will PT until you do break out. Once you graduate do not worry you can go back to your regular regiment.

just try to get as much sleep as u can while ur there. it wont be a lot, probly at best 4 hours every night. but in ur down time, read ur manuals and find a buddy/wing man. not the gay kind if u can help it, but an actual friend. write home a lot, or just write when u want to. follow what they say, they're goal is to break u down and to build u up. and most of all.. drink plenty of water!!! starting now, might as well get used to it.

prior enlisted active duty, af res 03 now. good luck.

The great part of the military is free health care. Go and get a prescription pill you can take for acne.

First - all the ones saying this is the least of your worries probably never had to deal with acne. For some, it's a big deal. (I too battled through it myself.)

Second - the best advice has been given. Get a prescription before you leave. They will not confiscate an actual medical prescription. (Make sure you get refills.) If you can't get something before you leave, then as you go through medical (initially), ask the military physician for a prescription for your acne - it should really be that easy. If it doesn't happen then and you have a severe breakout during training, you can take a medical day to visit the hospital.

Be aware though, you will not always have access to a restroom. Field training is a large part of basic as well as putting camo on your face (this is the worse for acne-prone skin.) Suggestion - when you get a chance to visit the PX, pick up some travel baby wipes and stick them in your rucksack.

By the way - thanks for your service. HOO-AH!

Well... too bad he isn't on the "KU bandwagon"... LOL

    Jason,
Best of luck to you with your time at bootcamp. I've heard its one hell of a challenge. I bet you'll be up to it. With the advice here, it sounds like the
    acne won't be a distraction.

Thats why i told you to get it now. I used 1 bottle of it and the tea tree oil completely fixed my acne problem. I swear by the stuff. The tea tree oil cleans the impurities out of your skin and gets rid of any and all bacteria.

You dont have to take it with you. Just use the soap provided by the military to maintain and keep your face as clean as possible.

Thank you in advance for your service.

The acne should be the least of your worries. Keeping your body in tip top physical shape should remain your top priority before going to boot camp. Otherwise those drill instructors are going to dog the hell out of your ass and make things miserable by calling you names and hollering unintelligable bullshit. Best of luck in boot camp. Now get your goddamned, goat smelling ass out in that goddamn formation young man.
