Good subject, just beware you will get the usual judgement from some, rather than actual facts.

I use them, and like them sometimes. Not sure if they are harmful or not, not aware of any actual studies that have been done. I don't think they should be used in conjunction with Viagra or other similar drugs, or by those on cardiovascular medications.

Well, I didn't realize it is a sensitive topic to chat about.
I'm the not so anal type because taking cock is so much pain for me most of the time, but concessionary when someone know how to do it right, it feel so amazing that i just couldn't stop.

And I had recently got attach in a close relationship, my bf have this really big cock that hurt like hell whenever he attempt to enter. Thus we never had any anal after almost a year of relationship, I'm start considering poppers as an alternative because sex is an essential part in the relationship.

Just wondering am i the only one have this problem, taking cock without any aid..

I read that taking poppers actually reduces your immune function for up to 48hrs after each use. You're better off taking a Valium if you need to relax during sex.

unlike many of the holier-than-thou judgemental queens here; i'll admit to occassional popper usage.

one quick snort of a good quality popper and my bf slides right into me, with minimal amount of lube and NO pain at all.

just like so many pleasures (alcohol, grass, cocaine, cigarettes), too much usage is not good for you.

    let the flaming begin...............icon_rolleyes.gif

I guess I've never really given poppers an honest try... a rare, half-hearted sniff is the most I've done.

I feel like I'm having such a good time without -- whatever effect it has on you -- that it could only detract from that. icon_confused.gif

They are legal here in CA, and I think most places. Usually can be found in adult book/video/sex stores. Also online, just not sure where.

Actually, I've heard about the immune thing - haven't validated it but it's a possibility.

Poppers are essentially safe, big 80's scare that they gave gays aids funded a lot of funding for studies that essentially proved that poppers are pretty harmless....and doesn't cause aids.

Go to erowid.org and look up amyl nitrate

NO, NO, and NO! Valium can be HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. Poppers are not. So nice that you would suggest people use something so dangerous during sex as Valium. But then, a lot of guys use methamphetamine during sex too, as well as extacy, and other highly dangerous artificial substances. And while ALL artificial substances can be harmful when misused, inhaled improperly, or ingested when uncalled-for, if used in moderation, poppers are not particularly harmful, certainly not as dangerous as Valium. Poppers in fact DO make receptive anal sex much easier.

According to the research I've read on the Web, the average dose of poppers during sex is huffed into the nose in about 2-3 inhalations. This is far lower than the average dose for heart patients (for whom the drug is intended) of 6 inhalations.

However, if you're doing Viagra, or GHB, or speed, the combination can be deadly. Viagra and poppers together can cause heart failure.

I wouldn't recommend poppers for people with allergies or sinus problems. When I've tried them they really burned and made my allergies worse the next day.

Poppers are generally safe if you do not have any underlying cardiovascular medical problems. As a previous poster noted, if used in moderation, you should be ok.

Because the drug causes arteriolar vasodilatation, it momentarily results in a drop in ones blood pressure with a paradoxical increased in heart rate to return to blood pressure to normal. Some people may experience headaches or lightheadness secondary to this if they are first time users or poorly hydrated prior to use. These symtoms normally quickly go away.

It is true that the drug is an irritant to skin and mucous membranes such as that found in the nostrils. As such it would be a good idea to wash all surfaces that came in contact with the drug after use, such as washing out ones nostrils with plain water.

An irritated nasal mucosas' natural defenses could be worn down by overuse signified by nasal burning. Under those conditions one may be susceptible to upper respiratory tract infections or worse depending on the health of ones immune system.

Speaking of immune system, there are medical reports that prolonged usage can affect the immune system in that the natural disease fighting ability of white blood cells can be compromised temporarily. This is more thru in people with an underlying immune deficiency such as HIV/AIDS.

By in large, if used judiciously, poppers are relatively safe in most people, and can make penetration easier for a bottom. The best advise is to listen to your body while using the drug, and make alterations or discontinue usage if unpleasant symptoms occur.

Overall, if one can avoid any drug during sexual activity, that would be ideal. A loving, caring, considerate partner would be helpful. Short of that, a little glass of wine prior to activity along with some heavy foreplay and generous lubrication should avert any use of drugs poppers or otherwise.

i've taken poppers before when the guy i was hooking up with offered, i was pretty naive since i didnt know what they were but have heard of them.

it smelled like nail polish, made me light headed, and basically made me lose some inhibition for like 10 secs. Never tried anal with it but I'm sure it would be like most says, less painful and more pleasurable.

Poppers are Amyl Nitrate, which is part of the nitrate family of drugs. In short, the effect nitrates have on the body is that they cause vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels). This causes more blood flow to every part of the body (with the exception of a few), resulting in a sort of head rush and flushing of the skin along with an increase in heart rate. Its temporary and its onset is fast because...well..the fastest route for most drugs to act is via inhalation.

Now..the upside is that the vasodilation is caused by relaxation of smooth muscle so it has a double benefit for bottoms in some ways. Also, the head rush makes the whole sexual encounter more intense.

The downside is that in the "heat of it all", you set yourself up for all sorts of bad decision making because your brain gets "caught up in the moment" so the decision to "chuck the condom" becomes easier unfortunately. Also, for a select few that are on blood pressure, heart, or ED meds, the poppers could cause a potentially dangerous drop in blood pressure. For some, the blood rushing to the head causes headaches and with all nitrates, tolerance is common.

As for the immune system hypothesis..i've read some stuff claiming the immune system drops but i haven't seen anything concrete...i did learn that Amyl Nitrate was originally (long long long long ago) used for the treatment of angina.

That's what I know...add more if y'all know more or correct me if i'm wrong.

As for the "do i use them" question...occasionally i do...but sparingly because they sometimes give me headaches and if you touch the bottle to your nose accidentally, it kinda burns...hehe. Once i accidentally inhaled the actual liquid so yeah....fun times.

I've also had guys offer them to me in the past, and while they're fun to use, I found the effect was pretty small and fleeting. Bottom line.. they're a way to mix things up and have fun with your partner, but don't take them too seriously and always be safe.

The primary correction I offer is in the formulations: AMYL NITRATE used to be the formulation for poppers, but hasn't been for many years, as it was outlawed for OTC use years ago. The formulations today are basically BUTYL NITRITES. Note that I spelled niTRITES and not niTRATES, as these are what they are made of today.

One effect I've noticed of the newer formulations is they don't cause as much of a headache as the older ones.
