Yes, gentlemen, it looks like I will joining the gainfully employed again! I had the interview today and after 15 minutes, the job offer was made. So barring any issues with the background check (and there won't be), I start training on September 9th!! The position is a contract to permanent position and the decision to make me permanent will happen at or near the end of the 6 month contract.

I have been unemployed since Sept '08. At my age, it can be really devastating to have to start over again and on top of all that, it seems an issue between my roommate and the apartment manager may cause me to look for another apartment, but I have already started looking into that. This was the first real hit I received on my resume' in just under a year and the first interview in that time, so I feel very fortunate to have gotten the job, given the circumstances of the economy.

There were times I was so low, I just didn't care, but I had to make myself care and understand at the end of the day, I am responsible for me. Some pretty hard lessons have been re-taught to me over this period and I promised myself not to take any situation just as it is.

For all the others who are in a similar position, though it may sound cliche' or patronizing, persevere. It will happen for you. It did for me.

    Yeah, I got a job!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_smile.gificon_surprised.gificon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gificon_lol.gificon_biggrin.gif

Congratulations, Erik! I don't know how you hung in there -- I've been 'in transition' (I refuse to say unemployed yet...) for about six weeks so far, and I'm getting so bored with myself I'm posting inane rambling threads on RealJock again. icon_lol.gif

    But seriously, that's awesome.

Wow! That's a long time to have to keep the faith. I am very glad to hear you got a job. Congratulations! Enjoy getting back to work.

I was out of work for 7 months, but that was because I quit my job cuz I needed the rest. ....and it took 4 months for my security clearance before I could start at my present job.

I love Monster.com. You just put your resume up there and the employers call you. I got a call on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago. And I am still getting pinged by employers. But it is gonna be hard to beat my present job which only has a 10 minute commute...and is one point in the triangle with my house and my gym, and with my organic grocery store in the middle.

Congrats on the new job. Good luck on the apartment search.

I failed my background check at my crrent job initially because they were not thorough in the process. Apparently, there is a guy out there that has my same name and date of birth who has a felony record. The agency my employer uses states they do a three point search; name, DOB and SSN. They didn't do a three point verification; they stopped at DOB. In the end I had to prove I was not the person their agency mixed me up with. Had to goto to court house and get statement that their Hector was incarcerated. It was funny and fustrating at the same time. Sucks having a common first and last name. Same shit happens with air travel due to common name.

Yes, and the GOP, wanted the 99% accurate Homeland Security SSN ID system removed from service to protect the illegal labor force. Business as usual.

Hope your new job goes well. The market is REALLY soft right now.

I turned down a really good offer for 84K at a HUGE telecom company last fall, because as was on a project, and I've regretted it the past year. Career choices can be hard.

Congratulations on your wonderful news !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the same boat. I have been unemployed for a long time and wondering how long I can last before my savings are gone. And, then what ? I am optimistic that all will be better in 2010.
