I will always have a special connection to Aaliyah. On the day of her death, I came out to my parents. It didn't go well. To try and escape, I went with a friend of mine to Michigan State University. That night at a party, one of the kids there received a call informing us of her death and to flip on MTV. She will be loved and missed. Her voice was unique and beautiful. May she sing sweetly to God.

Aaliyah was an original. When she passed there was a hole in which no one els has been able to fill.

I'd have to second that. For those of us in our 20's this was the first time we felt a music star die. Not to compare it to Elvis or Lennon, but it sort of felt like that. Many of us remember the exact moment we found out about her death.

She was just getting into her zone as a performer and singer when she died and will remain one of those sad "what if's" of music.

My favorite of hers is "If Your Girl Only Knew." And tying for second place would be "I Care 4 U" and "Are You That Somebody."

Yeah, I was so sad when I heard. I was at a club. The last album "Aaliyah" was a masterpiece. Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars. "I Care 4 You" and "We Need a Resolution" are my favorites by her. "At Your Best" definitely comes in third place.

And I didn't have the faintest idea who she was, or why anyone cared.

She was one of those god damn hoodlums those god damn kids were listening to. God damn those god damn ingrates. I fear for the god damn future with those god damn god damners god damning up the god damn place.

Pop culture and god damn music in general is only god damn relevant to your god damn identity during the four years you are in god damn high school (when you don't god damn know any god damn better), and then it's time to buck up and pull yourself up by the god damn bootstraps and stop wasting your god damn time with all that god damn hooey, and get a god damn job with god damn benefits, god damn it!

I was also in college when hearing of her death. Such a stunningly beautiful, gifted, humble talent that was lost. Makes no sense, but life rarely does. 8 years later, I hope she's resting in peace.

Aaliyah was a HUGE part of my family.. musically. We are a music family and even a niece of mine was named after her before her passing. My parents and I were on vacation when we heard on the radio that she died in the plane crash. I'll never forget that moment. The rest of the trip was so lame for me!

Her last album was amazing and her last few songs made me cry.. still do!

I actually really enjoyed her music. She is missed. Whoever costumed and choreographed the video to "Are you that Somebody?" should disemboweled with a very dull rusty garden implement. They did her and the song a grave disservice.

not sure why this says all nude celebrities .net... but nice pic...

    A few words:

A memory like it was yesterday.

I remember I woke up at the hospital when I heard of your passing. I couldn't help but wonder why you and not me. We were both in search of a bigger dream. We crossed path through fatal experiences on the same day, some say it happened at the same time. I made it but you didnt. Life has a purpose. You made a mark and it will never be forgotten. I guess I still have to make mine. August 25, 2001. A day that I will never forget. I love Aaliyah and you are my angel.
