How many times have you packed up and moved to a new city?

I grew up in Bradford, Ohio.. then my first move to Troy, OH when i was 18. Moved to Cincinnati for six months when i was 21, then Columbus OH for eight months.. The big move to Columbia SC for a year, Hickory NC for a year, Greensboro NC for eight months all for a previous employer that i moved all over for opening stores. then back to Hickory for a year and a half to build a friends business... now the big move back to Sidney Ohio to be close to family. icon_smile.gif

I would love to have moving expenses back.. haha!

    I'm weird. icon_lol.gif

I am a citizen of three nations. I have family in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East.

I think most people move or relocate due to their work or career. I on the other hand hang my shingle at several locations at one time.

Currently, Florida has been a dream. I live in a pocket of similar minds. Globalization has been wonderfully kind to me.

There's a story. If you want to hear it, e-mail me.

I´ve moved I think 21 times (I´ve probably forgotten some of them), through 3 continents, 3 languages and 6 countries. About to move again next week and that will set me on a trail which will add a new country, another language (OK it´s not totally new: I did live in a country before where it was one of the official languages and I can understand it OK) and push it at over 25 moves.

. Born in Southeast Asia, Vietnam in '81.
. Moved to Orange County, SoCal (Anaheim) in '92.
    . Jr HS / HS - 'til 1999 (OC - Anaheim area)
    . 1999 - 2001 (Huntington Beach, CA - Costa Mesa)
    . 2001 - 2004 (Cal - Berkeley - Bay area)
    . 2004 - 2005 - back in OC Anaheim for a while.
    . 2005 - 2007 - Los Angeles / Hollywood
    . 2007 - 2008 - Orange County > Oakland > San Jose (transition phase)
. 2008 - 2009 - San Francisco CA (spent some times visiting SoCal)

. The reasons why I moved around from SoCal to NorCal so much is - college, friends, love, work/job, the recession, drama with friends/family/being gay in general.

. Currently I live in San Francisco, CA - according to Forbes magazine, it's the 2nd most abandoned city - bc of the economy. I mean - it's either here or back in LA area. (Beverly Hills in LA and the Marina district in SF are so freaking Nice, though - now if I get like a $1,000,000 salary - I'd move there and buy a house for sure.)

I moved to Tampa when I was 32 (almost 4 years ago). That was my 29th move in my life. As a child, we moved around a lot (many times within the same town/city); usually when my Mom could no longer pay the rent in the place we were living at the time.

As an adult, I moved from central Illinois for college to Washington, DC for work. From there, I moved to NYC, then to Denver, then to Chicago and then Tampa. All of the moves were work related, except this last move from Chicago to Tampa. That was prompted to be closer to my mother, as she has MS.

Moving can be an adventure. However, at almost 4 years living in this house, this is the longest I have ever lived in the same house/condo in my life! I am liking the idea of actually growing roots icon_lol.gif

In no particular order, I've lived a year or more in all of these places:

    Texas
    Oklahoma
    Kentucky
    Arkansas
    Alabama
    Georgia
    New Jersey
    New York
    North Dakota
    Florida
    Washington State
    Europe

Have visited or lived less than a year in all the lower 48 states, but never Alaska or Hawaii. Within some of those states listed above I lived in several different locations, so that the number of times I've moved is even greater.

The reason was the US Army, and my gypsy soul. LOL! This is why in many of these threads I can honestly say I've been to a place being discussed.

Wow, I can't compete with 29 moves. But, of my group of friends that I grew up with, I've moved the most. Almost all of them have never left Chicago's southwest side and suburbs.

born: Chicago, IL - until I was 20
20 y/o: Oak Lawn, IL - one year (parents were there for six years)
21 y/o: Muncie, IN - three years, three different dorms and two apartments
    25 y/o: Winamac/North Judson/South Haven, IN - three years, three small towns
28 y/o: Bowling Green, OH... three years - three dorms, one apartment
    31 y/o: Orlando, FL - four months
    32 y/o: Chesterton, IN - four years
    35 y/o: Columbus, OH - starting soon. =)

I grew up in Chicago and my family stayed there until the neighborhood got very bad. My mom moved to the suburbs, and after she got settled, I took off for school at Ball State. Lots of different dorms/apartments, but mostly with the same group of people from freshman year.

I graduated and got a job in a small town about two hours from Indianapolis... loved the job, hated living in the towns, so I kept trying out different places to live and none of them really worked, lol. But, they were cheap. Incredibly cheap. Like, $200 for a nice four-room apartment right adjacent to the downtown. Cheap... but boring.

I got accepted to grad school in Ohio, so that was my way out of the small towns... I loved it and I love college towns in general. People are friendly, and there's just so much to do.

The three dorms were all during the first year. There was construction on campus, and the first dorm I was assigned to was having foundation work done while we were living in it. So... I moved out of the building just to avoid that, but moved back once the demolition was mostly done. I found a great studio apartment during year two and stayed there for the duration.

Then after graduating I landed a job in Orlando but found out I didn't like the South, or, that part of the South, anyway. Looking back, I had made some good friends and was having fun, but I was really homesick. So I headed back home to get back in touch with family and get my life together a little bit.

And now I'll be starting a new adventure in Columbus which is a city I really want to be in.

Born in AL (and as Paula Poundstone said of also being born there, I crawled to the border)
    Then Tokyo
    Next NY
    Then Virginia Beach/Norfolk

Thinking of moving to San Diego or San Francisco. Now that my ex has moved to DC, there is nothing keeping me here anymore.
