Circumcision no AIDS protection for gay men

    [QUOTE]

Circumcision, which has helped prevent AIDS among heterosexual men in Africa, doesn't help protect gay men from the virus, according to the largest U.S. study to look at the question.

The research, presented at a conference Tuesday, is expected to influence the government's first guidance on circumcision.

Circumcision "is not considered beneficial" in stopping the spread of HIV through gay sex

Does anyone find it odd to use the transmission of HIV as a reason to circumcise baby boys alongside with high-risk heterosexual men? That makes no sense at all.

Before the "Ignore His Post" feature ever existed, I employed what I call Permanent Mental Ignore. It certainly worked for me then and it still does now. icon_surprised.gif

I am gay but a dick is a dick. As long as it works and not covered in sores or warts - it's a dick, all is good.

Please just dismiss this as a case of cultural relativism. Although the idea that 'cut' is more aesthetically pleasing is slowly fading in America. Soon it'll just be done for religious purposes...

And I'm sure that circumcision 'would' also benefit gay men also, providing that they are exclusive tops.

Makes sense. The vast majority of HIV transmission in gay men is receptive anal sex. Makes no difference if a guy is cut or uncut if you're the one taking it. :>

    Thanks Slutzilla,

That's exactly how I meant it -- realistically speaking, the US is the number one country in the western world who routinely circumcizes infant boys for non-religious reason (it has steadily been on the decline here in Canada, especially since it is no longer covered by provincial health care unless deemed a medical necessity). In fact, I think they're number two in the world, generally speaking (next to Israel).

I've said it in other forums, but there is a sad irony in the fact that what is perceived as "normal" is a surgical procedure.

    Agreed.

What is even more ironic is that in the United States doing something similar to girls is considered illegal.

You're confused. Sorry. I was just pointing out something ironic for fun.

I used to think you were pretty cool GG. But I guess I just wasn't paying enough attention.

The two are not even close to similar. The organ on a fetus that develops into a penis in males is the same that develops into a clitoris on females. So that is where all of the nerves are bundled. So, for males, an act comparable to female circumcision would be complete castration. As in, take a scissor and slice off the whole dick.

Circumcision is the ultimate sexual perversion. It is cruel to forcibly mutilate a baby boy's penis or a 12-year old boy's penis (as is done in Egypt and other Muslim countries). What is even more perverted is to do it under the guise of religious, cultural or alleged "scientific" reasons. The nonsense that "cutting" men (as in Africa) decreases sexually transmitted diseases ignores the fact that the personal hygiene of an uncut man has more to do with disease transmission than anything else. Some men are not fastidious about keeping their foreskin clean and many of the bacterium and viruses that are transmitted from men to women incubate and thrive in the unclean glans of an uncut penis. Soap and hot water used on a daily basis or immediately after sexual intercourse are just as, if not more, effective than circumcision, not to mention the use of condoms. There is a reason why Nature has given man a foreskin. Unless it is medically necessary, there is no sane reason to commit circumcision.

I said doing similar to girls, i.e. even removal of the clitoral hood in females which is akin to removal of the foreskin in males, is illegal in the United States.
