My ear ring that is, you bunch of dirty men where thinking something else weren't you.. pffffft how filthy, why I should wash your mouths out!

anyway, I hadn't cleaned my ear ring in some months and it had a touch of the funks about it, so, I took it out and cleaned and polished it.. smells noice now *nods*

I've never encountered anyone else who's had this problem, it seems crap just accumulates in the crevice on the inside of the ring.. I could replace it but it's got sentimental value and I was just being lazy *nods* (and kinda forgot about it)

I know loads of people with itchy smelly earrings/eyebrow rings/belly button rings, and I'm surprised they don't just clean them out more often. Yucko. So kudos to you.

I think the real problem here might be men wearing earrings. icon_eek.gif OH SNAP! icon_wink.gif

I find that when I have stud earrings in they do tend to get a little funky.

But that is why I tend to only wear closed or circular barbell rings.

I find that it is much more pleasurable when they are flipping around as someone is playing with them ;)

I just never had one.....and was interested in what changed your mind? What caused you to get one - and yet change and take it out? Work pressure, or society maybe, or just that the "newness" of having one faded? Just interested in what you, Tim and others experienced.icon_neutral.gif

I started with one in the left ear. I liked the way it looked. Then I got another in the left ear. I'd wear a stud and a loop most of the time. The I got my right ear pierced and wore silver hoops in each ear. I just liked the way it looked and it seemed to go with my longer hairstyle.

As I got older, it just seemed to be a hassle and didn't fit with me anymore, so I stopped wearing them.

The whole mutilating yourself for fashion escapes me. To me it's no different than people who put giant plates in their mouths or coils around their necks to elongate them or turn their earlobes into giant calamari rings. Why does anyone do it, man or woman?

    Piercing jewellery gets dirty?

Huh. I guess 'cause I'm constantly rotating my helix it just doesn't get a chance.

i wear diamond earrings i saved up for and got from Tiffany, and when they're clean you can see them from the other side of a dim room lol..... but i never really take them out and crud builds up unavoidably on the backs and under the diamonds, which fogs them up and makes them go dull- so i have to clean them now and then to restore the sparkle. i hate it cause its always a nerve-raking process, since i'm terrified of one going down the sink drain

If you're that worried about losing the earring when you clean it, why not simply fill a bowl with warm, soapy water and clean the earring in that, rather than in the sink?

good point- well i use a special cleaner that i got from tiffany's and i usually run the earring under the tap to get it off once i've used it, but i guess a bowl of water could work... at home i just close the stopper on the drain, but here in the dorms they just have these perforated plates over the drains, with big gaping holes lol

Ouch. That hurts. I took my earrings out a few months ago, and just haven't put them back in out of laziness.

I was actually concerned about which rings could possibly smell. I assumed you were talking about a wedding ring or something of the sort. Possibly a belly button ring.

I clean them pretty much every day, while im in the shower. I hated when stuff would build up, and realized that if i specifically focused on them daily while showering, I could end the problem. It did. I take them out every once and a while and clean them with alcohol, to be safe. But I use the earring with the spiked/balled ends.

To answer why do people get piercings, for me I just thought it would look good. Plus I have a tendency to play with them when Im bored. (Always have to have something in my hands....even when I sleep.)
