Hey guys - Im heading to Vegas next week (see dates above) - anyone in the area that might point me to some good places, restaurants, entertainment that might be a bit off the tourist track ?

Obviously, Im going to hit the tourist stuff too but I've done all of that over and over and was wondering about other options. Im traveling with several friends and we are staying at the Rio. Message me or post here.

I plan on meeting up with one RJ friend for a drink but he is the only one I know from the Vegas area.

Go up to Red Rock Canyon west of town and hike the canyon, great spot.
Hoover Dam is fun if you are into big things.
Definitely go downtown for the light show very touristy but worth it.

Just back from Vegas and construction on and around the strip is a nightmare, especially around the new City Center development next to the Bellagio, add extra travel time if you are going to drive on the strip.

Do visit Boulder Dam and see the "old time" town of Boulder City.

A visit to The Springs Preserve will give your an education about the desert Southwest.

Following the loop of Red Rock Canyon by car or bike is great.

Downtown Las Vegas has been the focus of a great deal of effort to bring it back to life with many new clubs and art galleries.

Pick up the local publications and pass the big club/major hotel ads and look for the locals places.

The Conservatory and Art Gallery at the Bellagio is not your normal hotel attraction and can be seen on the way to lunch or dinner.

Las Vegas really is an entertainment center and you should have no shortage of ways to spend your time here.
