Can you name some? Big or small, recognized or not, you probably can.

Here's one that comes to my mind:

September 11, 2001. United flight 93 goes down in Pennsylvania.
One of the passengers on board was Mark Bingham, a gay man and ex-rugby player, who joined three other men in a desperate attempt to change the plane’s trajectory away from the U.S. Capitol.

... these are examples of men who are not afraid to be themselves. I may not behave the same way, but I think people should be who they are. Any gay person who can be themselves and lives their life for whatever it is, they're my ... um ... " gay hero. "

PS: let us not Ellen DeGeneres.

Caslon and MuchMoreThanMuscle are some of my gay heroes for being fantastic individuals who beat the ever living hell out of cancer.

Mark Bingham and Harvey Milk top my list - along with all those who tough it out in small town and rural areas, rather than moving to the big city.

SO true. And conversely, there are people who are my heroes and they may not even know it.
