    /Celine flamewar ON!

I've actually never liked her. Obviously talented but her attitude really irks me. 'I am Celine! Are you prepared for my beautiful gift?! (pounds chest twice)'

At least she was gracious to Kathy Griffin.

That being said that CD picture is hilarious. It's gotta be pre-molestation by that old bald dude of hers.

Eeek, look at that hair! I'm with Asupas, I'm not on the Celine bandwagon. I think she has a great voice, but I hate how she feels the need to make everything into a power ballad. If only she showed some restraint rather than belting everything out. She makes me cringe. Just like this picture.

I dated a much younger guy for about six months (many years ago) who was obsessed with Celine Dion. She's all he listened to. Ever since then I haven't been able to stand her.

When I first moved to Florida in 2001 there was a diner here in Fort Lauderdale that she owned. The restaurant was like a shrine to her. There were lighted showcases with her clothes, her shoes, her vocal arrangements, as well as little Celine gifts you could buy at the cash register. It was hilarious, and now it's gone. Sigh.

Try living in Quebec, where soooooo many guys turn into gushing Céline queens only AFTER you've gone home with them.

Playing a Céline Dion CD in the wee hours does NOT a hard on make!!!!!!!

I screen for this affliction, as early in the conversation as I can.

All I have to hear is Celine bawling "I'm your lady, and you are my ma-a-an" and I turn into a crazed killer.

And let's not forget her screeching rendition of "All By Myself." Oh, god. I looked at her collection on iTunes. I had NO idea she's ruined as many songs as she has. It's worse than I thought!!!

    LOL!!! @ Auryn & obscenewish's reply.

There's actually ONLY one good Christmas song that I've liked -- that gives me the feeling/spirit of Christmas whenever I'd listen to it.

    Colbie Caillat - Mistletoe

I've always referred to Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as the Unholy Trinity of musicdom. They cannot sing a word without hitting every octave to remind you that they can, and let's face it, they are solely responsible for the vocal stylings of the American Idol contestants, women AND men! icon_evil.gif

Hmm...I like her performance of "My heart will go on" for Titanic, primarily how well it synchs up with the imagery. The Titanic trailer is so dramatized and glamourized that I can't help (and won't help) loving every moment of it.

The movie on the other hand...ugh...the highlight was when Jack / Leonardo di Caprio drowned, prompting weeping from the gallery of teenage girls in the back of the cinema, which in turn prompted me to giggle because "Yes, that sucker is dead and this overly long vanity project is soon...over!"

I rarely listen to any of her performances other than that one though; her singing belongs with over-the-top drama.

Celine, eh? I can take her or leave her... just as long as I don't hear "My Heart Will Go On". ENOUGH ALREADY!! That song has been going on and on and on and on, ad nauseum, ever since the movie. Sure, I liked it the first million times I heard it, but I'm just sick of it now.

She's a good entertainer and she has a very good voice (though the vocal acrobatics can get annoying no matter who's doing them), but I was never what I'd call a "fan".

Now, for Christmas music... I prefer to listen to gems like "Wreck the Malls", "The Twelve Pains of Christmas", "I Love To Choke My Chicken", and "Who Put The Dick On The Snowman" for laughs... and for real Christmas music... The Carpenters, RuPaul's "Ho Ho Ho", Cyndi Lauper's "Merry Christmas, Have a Nice Life", and most of the classics.

Yes, I'm twisted... but its fun! icon_wink.gif

Wow - no snippy critics here!

Truthfully I think she is moderately talented, if over exposed on the playlists. Mariah Carey I never got until I saw her in person, and that I really enjoyed.

Whitney Houston was incredible both times I saw her, but that was a long time ago. Her evident passion and talent were a great show. Back then she obviously put everything she had into her performances.

I think all three of them have seen better days; and stopped being creative years ago. Now they are just coasting. All three of them have personal lives that no self respecting soap opera would dare produce.

This is funny to hear a bunch of gay guys bashing Even though I don't listen to Christmas music very often, I liked Mariah's Xmas album myself.. and Josh Grobin's new christmas cd is cool.

    StripperRocco stated : "OH GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas music is just tragic! Celine is tragic! Moo-Riah is tragic! The things people do for money! I'd have more respect for them if they sold their bodies on the street... wrapped in a big candy cane bow! "

icon_twisted.gif Well you know what they say: those who can do, those who can't...

icon_lol.gif They can't act, they can't dance, they probably don't have the talent to be strippers... or sell "their bodies on the street... wrapped in a big candy cane bow! " icon_lol.gif

I think she's ok. Although after watching the SNL sketch of this when Titanic came out, I can never look at her the same way again. I would post up the video for it but since YouTube removed it, the transcript will have to do.

    The Celine Dion Show

    Celine Dion.....Ana Gasteyer
    Shania Twain.....Molly Shannon
    Mariah Carey.....Cheri Oteri
    Gloria Estefan.....Matthew Broderick

Celine Dion Voiceover: Eh, I am French-Canadian, I am really skinny, and guess what: I am the best singer in the world! Welcome to my show!

Celine Dion: Okay! It's time to bring my next guests out. They are my beautiful, best friends, from my VH-1 Diva concert! Please welcome country music sensation, Shanna Twain! Oh, Shanna! [ Shania Twain steps out ] The magnificant Mariah Carey! Mariah! [ Mariah Carey steps out ] And, the Cuban dynamo, Gloria Estefan! Gloria! [ Gloria Estefan steps out ] Oh! Oh, girl, it was so nice to have you on VH- Diva Live, when I blew the roof off the mother!

You look very good for a woman who has had a bus accident, and a boat accident!

    Gloria Estefan: Thanks.

Celine Dion: Would you do me the honor of singing me one of your best song now?

Gloria Estefan: No. [ shakes head ]

    Celine Dion: Please?

Gloria Estefan: no, no, no. Look, I know what you're gonna do, okay? I'm gonna start to sing, and then you're gonna get up and act like an ass, and drown me out.

Celine Dion: No.. Oh, no, Gloria, I won't, I swear to my God! Please, do not deprive this lovely audience of your beautiful gift.

Gloria Estefan: [ suckered in ] Alright. [ stands and sings "Conga" ]
"Come on, shake your body baby,
    do the conga
I know you can't control yourself any longer!"

    [ Celine jumps in ]

    Celine Dion: [ singing ]
"I know you can't control yourself any longer
Feel the rhythm of the music getting stronger
    Ole! Ole! Ole!"
[ stops suddenly ] Oh. Oh. Get the rhythm of the beat.

Gloria Estefan: Hey, Celine! You promised!

Celine Dion: Oh, I'm so sorry! If I wasn't such a nice person, I'd think I was a showoff!

    Gloria Estefan: You're a freak!

Shania Twain: Yea-ah. You know, you're crazy, Celine!

Mariah Carey: Yeah, you know what? I don't have to take this - I'm going out with a Yankee shortshop. [ shakes her booty, and exits stage, Shania and Gloria follow ]

Celine Dion: Please! Don't be jealous of me! [ piano music plays, lights dim ] I wasn't always this lucky. There was a time when I had so many ear infections, the kid in the town would call me "Ugly, Retarded Girl"! But now, I am the best singer in the world. And now I will sing the best song in the world! [ stands and sings ]

"Once more, you opened the do-oo-oo-oorr!"

    [ fade out ]

    Loved that SNL skit!

I'm going to defend Celine here. Yes, I think she over does it when singing, along the likes of Mariah and Whitney. But I ahve to say that she's a really, really nice person, down-to-earth when you get to know her.

I got to work with her once and it was an amazing experience. She knows how to turn it on for the public, just like most divas. It's all about show. But backstage, she's really quite quiet and normal.
