Thanks guys! And you will be happy to hear that it worked.
YEAH!!! We got the rest of the show canceled now!
We did it! Together we canceled the “murder music” tour!
Less than 24 hours after the Center encouraged the public to demand that AEG Live, Goldenvoice and Live Nation cancel their nationwide concert tour by “faggots have to die” singer Buju Banton, including a show at L.A.’s Nokia Club, they complied; you can read more on Variety, Entertainment Weekly and Pollstar's websites. http://www.lagaycenter.org/site/DocServer/2009-08-28_Live_Nation_and_AEG_Cancel_Buju_Banton.pdf?docID=7541
It’s outrageous that it was even necessary for us to pressure these companies to cancel shows by an artist whose lyrics blatantly promote violent attacks on LGBT people; this is a singer who has recorded such appalling lyrics as, “Anytime Buju Banton come, faggots get up and run … they have to die.” He sings that he will shoot them in the head or “burn them up bad.”
These companies would never have booked a singer whose lyrics glorified the murder of any other group of people, and we joined together to send them a crystal clear message that singers who promote violence against any group should never be given a stage on which to perform!
Hundreds of you sent this message by calling or e-mailing the presidents of the companies, signing our online petition, joining the related Facebook group and encouraged your friends to do the same.
Our quick success is a tribute to the power of the LGBT community to join together and let our voice be heard!
