Today (friday August 28th 09) two horror franchises will be going head to head....Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 and The Final Destination 3D. Which do you think will lead as #1 at the box office this weekend? Which, if any, will you see?

I think H2 will lead for the first weekend and I might be able to see both, if I can't, then I will be seeing H2 on saturday.

H2 will be #1. I am a huge horror fan and a couple of years ago I was psyched to see Halloween since the original is one of my all time favorite movies of any genre but Zombie's take was just so so to me. Final Destination movies are ok but might be more like a dvd rental kind of thing.

Ill probably end up seeing H2 and go in with no expectations. Its pretty disappointing that Hollywood cant come up with any original scary movies. I love District 9 but that was sci fi

WOW dude, you BEAT ME to the punch as I was just signing on to this site to post this exact same forum topic! LOL

I just saw Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN II last night, & personally LOVED IT. Am excited to see both franchises, I've just been more AMPED for HALLOWEEN II than FD4 (the final destination). The Final Destination series pretty much are all elaborate "murder set pieces" - lacking plot/character/etc. Its moreso a "body count" film to see how each individual will meet death.

Whereas Rob Zombie's first initial HALLOWEEN remake from 2 years ago was indeed a cool film, it too had its share of probs (half rob zombie creation, half quick rushed remake!) ultimately at times making it messy (but NOT a mess) LOL

HALLOWEEN II, however, is a GRITTY, ULTRA VIOLENT & TRIPPY film. Sure, many HALLOWEEN afficinados' will be turned off at how different this entry is. However, if you're a Rob Zombie fan - you'll LOVE it. IMO, great use of cinematography in many scenes, great gritty use of 16mm film, very brutal violence (no joke guys!...people left the theater midway!) , & Rob Zombie's trade-mark "white trash" dialogue/bantering that litters his scripts is kept moreso minimum in this outing! The ending.....ehhhh....it is what it is. But, it makes sense I guess. What I respect the MOST - is Rob set to make HIS movie...NOT a movie for the producers/company, NOT what every halloween fan wanted/expected - he made HIS film. And this is Definently a Rob Zombie film. I do consider HALLOWEEN II to be his "Devils Rejects" to his "house of 1,000 corpses" .... if ya get.

But Heck! Out of the BAD Halloween entries that are out there (Halloween 8: Resurrection, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers) - this one is NOT bad at all. Just not something you'd expect either!

Don't get me wrong, I find the FD series just as entertaining to the next, but I do prefer Rob Zombies input a bit more than a "gimmick" film.

    One down, one to go....

I'm curious too of what Franchise will make it #1. Will it be Halloween II or TFD? Hmm..

But guess what guys!!!!! Now that Rob Zombie has wrapped up his Michael Myers mythos, he's now working on his $30 Million next project ---- his remake to THE BLOB!!!!

(SORRY for the LONG rant here...Deuces!)

only way i'm seeing H2 is if i can find a big strong guy to cling to the whole time, cause the first one scared me shittless when i saw it. and since i have no big strong guy to cut the arm circulation off lol, i think i'll just wait

The Final Destination will suck bigtime. I liked FD1, but the other two were really dumb. I watched them, of course, and will probably watch this one, but it's going to be stupid. The preview virtually shows everything anyway!

Halloween: Resurrection at least had the line, "Happy Halloween, motherfucker!"

The thing I don't understand about H2 - is this a remake of the original "Halloween 2" that takes place on the same night at a hospital? Or is it completely its own creation?

Absolutely NOT! From the get-go, Rob Zombie said this was NOT a remake to 1981's HALLOWEEN 2. Sure, this new one DOES open immediately after the events of the first one, & she does go to the hospital - but this is just the first 15-20 minutes of the film. The rest & whole movie takes place 2 years later. Its rob's OWN creation.

"happy halloween, Motherfucker" (ugh!) lol icon_rolleyes.gif again - Halloween 8....worst....halloween...film....ever! icon_biggrin.gif

I always thought the original second Halloween could have been a decent horror movie if it had been better made - there is something undeniably creepy about a quiet, half-abandoned, small-town hospital at night. But it really lacked John Carpenter's creepy, menacing mood and camera work.

Halloween 8 was definitely the worst of the series, my favorite part was how they used an obvious tabloid photo of Josh Hartnett for Jamie Lee Curtis' "personal photo" of her son at the mental institution. Thoug I also have to say the one with Paul Rudd that dealt with some astrological cult was pretty bad too. I was also pretty disappointed in H20 - how could it take place in some boarding school rather than Haddenfield? Such a wasted opportunity.

Nice review....I pretty much felt the same way about H1. I felt it was crafted decently, but seriously I don't care if Michael Myers was a sad little kid at one point, I just want to see him massacre. After seeing the previews for H2 at "Bruno", I thought..."This looks promising." Additionally, afterwards my friend who I saw "Bruno" with said "Rob Zombie is seriously fucked in the head," I had a feeling it would be good.

I understand the 1,000 Corpses vs Devil's Rejects comparison, although I enjoyed 1,000 Corpses over H1 much more....and Devil's Rejects? That just makes my feel dirty and crushed afterwards....which I love about that movie.

But I think H2 will win....it has tons of history.

I'll see both in theaters, FD3D and Halloween2. FD mainly because its in 3-D, and the 3-D technology now is so amazing. Halloween just cause its Rob Zombie, who I have been a huge fan of since La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 came out.....

I wish he'd put White Zombie back together!!!

I didn't know they both came out this weekend. Which to see?

Agree that only FD1 was good, but the cop from the second FD was hot and worth watching. This one looks amazingly cheesy and worth seeing to see how bad it will get.

Will have to wait till next week to see Halloween and see it by myself. My boyfriend just isn't into the very gory films. Maybe he can just sit in the lobby and read the bible. icon_biggrin.gif

But I bet Final Destination will take the box office, seems there's been more marketing and for it. The 3D thing also draws people in.

I couldn't bring myself to get a Tan for 6 months after the last Final Destination......I'm really uncertain that I want to give myself an irrational movie based fear of Escalators or Car Washes

going to watch TFD today. I figure that since I've wasted brain cells and money watching the other movies, I might as well watch the (hopeful) end of the series.

At least Rob Zombie tries to add a real element of darkness and creativity...The "Final Destination," series is just your run of the mill teen pop culture garbage.

The way "Final Destination," looks, I'd be surprised if I could get through the first hour without hearing the term "BFF," or a reference being made to Paris Hilton!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

Holy F*ckballs!! H2 was AWESOME!!! It was brutal and stunning and I stand behind Rob Zombie's Halloween saga completely!!!

The Final Destination was pretty cool but was a little too "music video" for me. The opening titles were pretty interesting for those who have seen the last three installments.

Hollywood needs to cut two things from all upcoming movies:
-Any and all forms of the end of humankind/ planet earth.
-Any and all forms of 3D. Seriously, it's getting old now.

While I am thrilled about some movies coming out in 3D, The Final Destination could have done without it. I don't like this type of 3D (Real 3D or whatever) because I'd rather some special scenes pop-out, rather than the who freakin' movie. It's kind of annoying if you close one eye haha

I love how a lot of people want to go see/ have seen Halloween 2! My theater had no line for TFD3D...Halloween 2 had a huge line. Halloween 2 will be #1!!!
I truly believe that H2 is an original, violent, and visually stunning installment into a franchise that is known for some crazy ass stuff (ex. The thorn cult. The ending of H20/ beginning of Resurrection.) This film was possibly the most emotionally disturbing in all of the Halloweens. I got teary eyed at about 4 points in the movie. This is most positively Rob Zombie's masterpiece. I am looking forward to "The Blob"!

As for the critics that are going to dislike this movie (the guy behind me who kept touching his girlfriend's twat and not paying attention), they should take a look at some of the other crap that's been flying onto screens with other genres! (The Pink Panther 2, Push, The JONAS BROTHERS IN 3D!!! GRR)

So i saw Halloween 2 Eariler..and I can Say it is twisted.. it has Rob Zombie Written all over it.. Only he could think that stuff up.. Only the first part of the Movie takes after the Orginal kinda..and it was kinda tense to watch that part.. I like how He showed the Psychic terror connection that has been showen in other Halloween Movies.

In all i still loved it ...

So Halloween has the Vote but checking out Final Destination later tonight.

Just got back from watching Halloween 2. It was good. Final Destination 2 seems more like an MTV horror movie. If only they cast the girls from the Hills, Brody Jenner, Heidi Montag, and Spencer Pratt in the roles..

I'm a huge horror fan so I am going to have to vote for Halloween 2 taking the box office. Rob Zombie's adaptation of H1 was a good film but I hope that H2 will eclipse it; the studio in which funded the project actually count on the box office to save itself. I do have a love of the Final Destination films but I think the new reincarnation of the Halloween franchise will prevail.

Yup ... HALLOWEEN II definently had some emotional packed punches in SOME of the parts. Esp regarding one character I truly liked alot.

& wow...the choice of weapons he had in this movie...dang!

One thing - The scene in the first act at the hospital: Michael Myers + axe + stalking around in the rain = Fuckin' SCARY!! icon_razz.gif
