I have an Irish accent and it has not brought me the luck of the Irish at all...I'll stick with it though.

I think the voice also plays a part. I like a hot American or South African brogue...

    French and Argentinian.

I had a friend in college who had recently moved here from France. Spoke almost perfect English, but still moved his lips in the French way and had such a perfect accent. It still makes me shudder all these years later.

I'm a sucker for just about any accent... especially non-native English speakers speaking American English. While I love the English accent, I only like it on the English. I do not like the English accent on non-native English speakers

However, I absolutely melt over Germans speaking English (or Germans speaking German for that matter)... so hot!

I think I'm the exact opposite of Hunter9. I tend to find the variety of first-language accents (South African, Australian, Scottish, Irish, BOSTON, Southern, etc) to be pretty damned sexy (and growing up in California, I'm considered to have mostly no accent - but there's a mild southern drawl from the part of central Cali I come from).

I think when it's clear that English is the second language (via accent), I can't help but think that certain colloquialisms and vocabulary will be lost on the person. So... if it seems that communication will be difficult, it becomes more of a turn-off than anything else.

    Aussie, for sure.

And while the accent itself isn't necessarily the turn-on for me, I could listen to a guy speak Italian all night...even though I have no idea what he's saying. :-)

citpolo: i dont think you understand what i meant... i do enjoy other english accents (ie Irish, Aussie, Southern, etc)... my point was that if there is a non-native English speaker speaking English, I like to hear it in "American" english, not the Queens English. For instance, a Dutchman speaking proper English English does not do it for me like if he had been speaking American-accented english

    Israeli.

Turn off: High-falutin' English accents. I like the working-class English accent though. Probably because I had a Cockney boyfriend in New York a long time ago. He taught me some slang that I loved. (I still think of the Queen as "Sweaty Betty".) icon_smile.gif

Quite a few can be sexy:

A Scottish Gaidheal accent in Gaidheal or English; An Irish Gael accent in Gael or English; an Aussie accent; a native Hawaiian accent, An Argentine accent; a Southie (Boston) accent - NOT a Harvard accent; and the almost extinct coastal Georgia southern accent - NOT Gullah. etc.

    Aussie accent is super hot...

then again, when I travel to Scandinavia, they say my "american accent" is hot as well. LOL But I do correct them and tell them that I have a Canadian accent... they would just say, you sound like a New Yorker to me LOL

Hmmm ... for me it's Boston, Southern (I just melt when a cute Texan drops a 'yall' on me), Aussie, English, Irish.

Lol, come to think about it the only accents that I don't find sexy are various Asian ones, which I guess isn't too much of a surprise cuz they are so different from Western ones.

A British accent can be very sexy; case in point
David Beckham. Actually, he'd be sexy in any language/dialect.
