Is the state's law forbidding adoption by gay people protection for children or bigotry? A Miami appeals court must decide.

Previous lower court rulings against the state gay adoption ban have all been overturned on appeal by the state. The issue will lose again. Florida is too red-neck, and has too many Republican-appointed judges, to ever agree to this. Sad but true, no sense getting everyone's hopes up in the gay community.

And the US Supreme Court has already ruled on this, saying adoption is a state issue. The precedent has been set, so no Federal appeal will succeed in overturning the Florida law.

I hate Florida sooooooooo fucking much. I've never met so many genuinely stupid people in my life down there. And yes, I actually went to different places.

The only thing adoption, like marriage needs protection from are the bonehead trial lawyers.

I agree. Been her 12 years. Next year Im leaving and the only time im back is to see a few good friends. For at most 48 hours. Then Im gone again.

As far as this article goes, Im not suprised by the comments, and the extremely flawed argument the DCF attorney used. ``There is evidence that homosexuals have higher rates of mental disorders, suicide and domestic violence,''

Mental Disorders: Let me guess. Depression. For being Gay. With those of us being scared of coming out for opression, and disowned. No reason for that there.

Suicide: Again, from public oppression. Perfect example - This law.

Domestic Violence: considering there are fewer gay couples than straight couples, I want to see the statistics on this.

All in all, if these are concerns, then we can be screened like anyone else.

    Simple really.

I've advocated for lopping off the entire swinging dick of America. It's a gigantic waste of coastline. Sorry hot boys who live there, move north. We'll be happy to have you here in the Pacific NW. Bible thumping bigots, you can stay there whilst I pray for hurricanes.

    @ jakebenson

that's a pretty sharp judgment, where did you live that you ran into so many losers? While FL is the freak-show state of the union, there's plenty of good peeps there, take me for example lol

The ruling though was pretty ignorant. kids needing good homes and parenting should be able to be provided one even if their parent(s) is gay

You know its sad. It really is. You think of florida as being a trendy state and a lot of gay men and women. BUT thats not entirely the case. This is a very very large state.

There are so many conservative and sheltered areas here. Especially the panhandle. I lived there for a while...wow it was the bible belt.

I moved here almost 4 years ago. I can't wait to get the hell out of this state. I pay so much in property taxes each year; however, I am not protected at all in this state from all forms of discrimination - hate crimes, relationships and I can't adopt/have children in this state. I have often argued that I shouldn't have to pay most of the taxes that I remit each year as the state has banned me from utilizing most of what they go for (education, schools, etc.).

I am already starting to look at splitting my time between here and Chicago and sell my place just as soon as I can minimize my overall loss on my property.

Many of these "mental disorders and suicides/parasuicides" are a result of an intolerant and bigoted Christian society. They are not a result of being gay... but rather suffering from discrimination and hatred for being gay. Big difference.

I have lived in many places and I can say without any doubt that Florida is nothing but sunshine over a shit hole.I moved here to get away from the snow,I bought a home in a nice area,(homes priced 300k+)and after three years this what I have seen of Florida.

Ignorant bible thumping homophobic rednecks, criminal illegal immigrants, racist african americans not smart enough to pull up their pants that also think armed robbery is a career to be proud of, creepy old white child molesters, blatant out of control welfare fraud, dumb ass white meth- head trailer trash, polluted piss warm beach water, corrupt government and police officers, the worst drivers that I have ever seen in my life(1 out of 3 without insurance),months of hell-like heat and humidity, frequent daily downpours of rain and constant encounters with deadly poisonous snakes and spiders.

As soon as I can get a reasonable offer on my house, and I have accepted the fact that I will take a great loss,I am out of Florida and will never come back, ever.

Guys I totally agree. Florida is an EXTREMELY southern-biblethumping-redneck-conservative state. We're as south as it gets. People think that Miami/South Florida is super liberal, but we're not. Just in Miami-Dade we're a LITTLE moderate. But go to Nowhere, Florida and you'll encounter the typical redneck or the reverse racist black guy or the completely ignorant "Christian". I seriously cannot wait until I move to NYU icon_confused.gif because seriously...this is getting depressing. What if I want kids? Or what if I want to get married? "Oh no, you can't adopt Billy, you'll give him the AIDS along with your queer-o-sexual disease." Fucking dumbasses. And the lawyers trying to protect the law didn't even give valid arguments (I saw the trial on the news)

I live near Cocoa Beach Florida and I have to tell you I really enjoy it here. I have been here over 20 years and have seen lots of changes. I think youre going to find plenty of idiots in any state as large and diverse as Florida. Last time I heard its the 4th most populated state. I dont know how the numbers split up but there is a shit ton of people from other locations. Some parts of the state barely speak english (i.e. Miami Dade).

I have made a great living here and made a lot of friends as well.

When I left Boston I did have a culture shock when I got here. Partly because I thought everyone from Northeast was smarter. But let me tell you, when I go back every year to visit relatives I find just as many ignorant assholes up there.

    Anyway just my two cents

You're pretty damn gullible if you think I'm referring to every single person in Florida. If you really want me to get technical, then yes over 90% of the people from Florida are complete idiots. If you want to consider yourself to be the less than 10% then go ahead.
``There is evidence that homosexuals have higher rates of mental disorders, suicide and domestic violence,''
even though used in a very flawed argument, at least he got facts somewhat correct.

in singapore, we havent even gotten that far.

consensual homosexual anal sex is illegal: "a misuse of organs, like shoving a straw up your nose to drink" (thio li-ann)

in the same penal code (377), heterosexual anal sex is legal.

im still trying to drink in all that fantastic information.
