I was hoping for a more rational and reasoned argument about how I am wrong, But, If that is the best, and he agrees with me, so be it.

GQ- That was interesting but who needs it? I do not need to know why God, or a God thing, is necessary? I know why. People are sheep. I know that. The vid was interesting but not informative. It said nothing in the way of debate or argument. It was boring. People believe in a God thing because that is how we are wired. We need to know answers to unanswered questions. That is human. We ask. When we do not have answers, we ascribe it to some God-thing. No shit. Is that a suprise to anyone?

I do not mean to be disrespectful of anyone that believes in a God or not, that was not my intention. I was just asking a bigger existential question, is there a God? Can anyone show me why or why not I, as an atheist, should believe? I am looking for debate on a higher level. I am looking for guys that can debate this most fundamental issue on a higher level. The higher the better.

There are on the order of a thousand threads on this site which debate this very question. You can find in each of them different reasons why we can never know, reasons why we do know, and reasons why the question is moot. It all comes down to the sort of proof you find acceptable. If the bible gets you off, there is your proof. Is evidence gets you off, there is none.

But, this will just turn into another flame war. So have fun.

Debate on a higher level? On this site?
    Clearly you've overlooked the 600 would-you-do-the guy-above-you threads.
Read them and you'll find all the proof you need that not only is there no God, but there's no intelligent life in the universe.

    Think about this mate.

If I live a good christian life with good deeds and there is no God, then I get the satisfaction that I lived a good and moral life towards others.

If I live a good christian life with good deeds and there is a God, then I get to spend forever in Heaven.

If you don't live a good and moral life and there isn't a God, then you die a sad person who regrets alot.

If you don't live a good and moral life and there is a God, then you die and go to Hell.

That's a rough translation of a passage in Blaise Pascal's Pensees where he compares belief in God to a bet that you can't really lose.

    Aggie-

That is just the answer I was looking for. You get the Golden Ticket!!!!

Living a good life is a reward in and of itself and, if there is a God, at the end he will reward you. If, at the end, there is no God, then you lived a good life regardless. Either way, you win and all the people that ever came in contact you win because they came into contact with a pretty good guy.

    Great answer.

Yes, however, fair is fair, first, you must first prove you have a brain.

Why must I prove that I have a brain to make my question valid or invalid?
Brain or no brain the question stands on it's own merits.

This is meaningless -- it presupposes that a "good christian life" is actually a satisfying life even in the circumstance where there is no god. In fact, if there is no (specifically christian) god, a "good christian life" is no more inherently satisfying than many other alternative ways of living.

EDIT: Of course, one could argue if a "good christian life" is satisfying whether there's a god or not, since satisfaction is a personal feeling.

So to follow your thought, how have you determined, that if there is a God, he will reward you? And what do you surmise the reward will be? How has that been proven?

Problem: the above list is incomplete.

What if I live a good Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist or Hindu life....?
What if I'm an atheist but still lead a good life with good deeds, etc?

By your own logic, how can you go wrong giving up pork, praying 5 times a day and making the hajj to Mecca? If Allah exists, you'll be rewarded with heaven, otherwise you'll lead a better life and have a great travel experience....

Lol, this sheep is just going to say "Baaaaaaaa..."

...no one can prove or disprove god - but they're welcome to try.

Absolute proof god exists could have bad repercussions, as it did in the old days when everyone was absolutely convinced god existed, and vast numbers of people were killed or let die. Life became a little more precious when we no longer knew for certain, so perhaps god wants it that way, eh?

This is an intentionally inflammatory question. Aren't there enough of these kinds of threads around already? Faith is, by definition, belief in someething that cannot be demonstrated or empirically proved, and you know it, pal...
