    1. Who do you think is going to win? Men/women
    2. Should Serena be the #1 instead of Dinara Safina?
    3. Was it early for Safin to retire? now we're losing a tennis hottie..

Kim Clijsters welcome back! Whitney Houston - nice try. lol

Well pretty funny way to start the thread...

I like the way Sharapova looks and I don't think anyone will beat federer.

Would have liked to see Safin win though.....

The WTA ranking system has Dinara as the number player. She's been playing more tournments and winning them, therefore she has more points.
The fact that she has not won a grand slam is immaterial.

As far as Whitney Houston is concerned. Her CD is alreaduy sold out! The come back pretty much speaks for it's self. GMA concert was a TRAIN WREAK!

She did much better on Oprah which will air in later this month.

Kim is playing well because she has not been challenged yet and the same can be said for Maria.

    1. I really hope Roddick will win. He deserved to win Wimbledon... well, I guess he didn't "deserve" cause he lost, but really, I thought he played better than Federer except for a few crucial points..

For the women, I hope someone other than a Williams sister.

    2. Dinara should be because she actually plays tournaments (and wins them) besides the Opens.

    3. Never knew much about Safin.

Going tonight - seeing Sharapova and Roddick. Very stoked.

I believe either one of the Andy's will win....hopefully Roddick but Murray is way too good to not count him, but anyone is better than Nadal winning it.

Womens i say is going to be Serena but Azarenka is also playing well and is under the radar so either of those two.

Serena should def be number one..in the mens Roger has won 3 of the 4 grand slams and is #1 and serena has 3 but is somehow losing to a girl whos won i think 3 or 4 tournaments this whole year..

And it def was time for safin to retire he hasnt done well in a long time..and djokovic is hotter in my opinion.

but best matchups coming up soon are venus vs clijsters, Dementiva vs Oudin, and Federer vs Hewitt

I am rooting for Andy Murray. But then there's Federer.. **sigh** Del Potro is a contender too..

Dementieva is looking pretty solid but i guess Serena is just unstoppable when it comes to the Slams.

Dinara has never won any Slams but she's consistent in playing in any events. I think she deserves to be the number 1. Serena should play to some WTA events like the Indian Wells. The biggest tournament outside the Slam.

And about Whitney? umm.... good thing she is trying her best but she is really losing it. This girl can sing even better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4Xd435coD4

ugh: I wish my main man Andy Roddick could sustain as good a game as he looks. Otherwise, I have a special place in my Tennis-loving heart for:

I'd be surprised if anyone beats Federer. Andy Murray is a little stuck up about "not being British" for my liking. I'm not a Safina fan. I'm hoping the US Open will be subtitled "How Venus Got Her Groove Back." Although, Serena or Sharapova is sure to make it in to the final.

    Hey Smooth,

Venus and Serena will NEVER play Indian Wells and I don't blame considering how they were treated when they both appeared there.

I have one an additional comment regarding the train wreak appearance on GMA. I have yet to hear an artist who did that show during the summar concert series sound good. Also had this it been a sold out concert venue and that happened now that's another thing. If her future public apparences follow suit. I will also be a Whitney fan and I wish her much success with her recovery. You GO! Whitney. BTW her cd is on it's way to being #1.

    Hey Ducky,
As far as I know , they were "booed" since one of the sisters withdrew last minute before the match. The stadium was packed, the crowd patiently waiting for the sisters to play. They are top players and should understand how disappointed the crowd not being able to see the sisters play against each other.

They have been invited many times to play at the Indian Wells but yeah, like you said.. i don't think they will ever play at the indian wells again.
But where's the "sportsmanship" now ? (for the love of tennis). that I just don't understand.

I saw Gulbis play for the first time about two years ago ... I was in awe. He just captivated me ... his stamina could use some work, but he is incredibly proficient in overwhelming his opponents ... for, perhaps, the first set. icon_sad.gif

Sisters are the only players on the tennis with a poor attitude. Elena just lost to Odin and she left the court without even saying good bye to her fans.
The kid just out played her.

My problem with is Venus and Serena are held to much diffrent standard, which is ok because they are still winning matches and atleast one if not both of them usually are in a slam final.
This years US Open will be no diffrent and I pick Serena to win.

I recall years back when Venus was playing and a change over occured and the player that she was playing ran into her on purpose and Venus just let it go had Venus done something like that there would have been hell to pay. So the sportsmanship theory goes both ways.

They are they best American Women tennis have or tennis period. Just look at their stats. When they are on no one can beat them! Right now Serena is on fire as well as Venus.

... where is James? He needs to be on-screen. Whether it's him playing, him eating a hot dog, him walking a dog ... the camera should be glued to this beautiful man:

James blake (the photo above me) is playing right now against Rochus ( shortest male player )

Dementieva and Jankovic lost. whats up with the women's top players losing to unseeded players?

I'm pulling for Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova (though it's always great to see one of the Williams sisters win and it is The U.S. Open)

An incredible showing by the Americans (men and women, particularly the up n comers). When I saw the opening ceremonies and watched Andre Agassi being honored, I was reminded why I have always thought of him as one of the greatest American tennis players. Nice to see him honored and he is a shoo-in for a quick Hall of Fame member.

    As to the tournament:

Men-Want Roddick to win, but I think Federer or Murray will win. My dark horse pick-Ferdasco.

Women-Want Venus to win, but Serena will win (I don't think Venus' knee will hold up. My dark horse pick-Maria Sharapova.

    Men's Doubles-The Bryan twins

Women's doubles-The Williams' sisters. Will be their tenth grand slam doubles title if they win.

But again, the Ameicans are making a great run this far into this tournament. After so many years, good to see and maybe now Andy Roddick doesn't have to represent the U.S. by himself.

And since this is a tennis thread, VOTE SILVERFOX as MAN OF THE DAY! He is a tennis fanatic too!!! icon_lol.gif

    serena will win

    Roger will win

Dinara deserves to be no 1. If serena showed up at more tournaments and earned more ranking points instead of deliberately losing in the first round of the mandatory tournaments so she can get home early then the ranking system would show her as No1.

There is no doubting that Serena is the best player in the world right now (in the absence of Justine Henin) but the ranking system accumulates points not titles.

Ivanovic has lost the plot. Dementieva is too error strewn as is Jankovic and Sharapova is definitely the force to be reckoned with.

Clijsters. Well that just show's what a joke the womens game is. If somebody that has been off for 2 years and had a baby can come back and beat ''the world's best'' then there is something wrong with the consistency in the sport.

I agree with everything you said on here. You must be a tennis player yourself..;) I hope we will see Justine Henin play again.

Robby and Jesse are out, but Taylor Dent, coming back after back surgeries put on a hell of a 5 set match. Fastest serve in the tourny at 147 mph.

6 Americans still alive for the men:
    Taylor Dent
    James Blake
    Andy Roddick
    Sam Querrey
    Jesse Witten
    John Isner
** Unfortunately, John Isner meets Andy Roddick next.

Shenay, Bethany and Jill are out on the women's side.

4 Americans still alive for the women:
Melanie Oudin (sent 4th seed Dementieva home)
    Vania King
    Serena Williams
    Venus Williams
