Alternating Fat burn and gaining muscle

How often do you alternate between bulking up (high healthy calories and wieght training) and Cutting (cardio and fewer calories).

I have heard everything from 6 months to every other day.

I am interested to know what works best for you. I am trying to add muscle mass, but in the long run, but I want to keep the fat to a minimum.

Thanks,

I train for quality not quantity. Gaining lean muscle mass and burning extra fat are two things that I work on at the same time.

Bulking and cutting seems really unnecessary, unless you're training for a particular sport and you're trying to achieve a certain weight category.

And since your metabolism slows down with age, it's gonna get harder to shed the extra bloat during your "cutting" cycle.

You might look into the carb cycling theory. I don't have specifics but have seen it on a couple of bodybuilding forums. Basically, it lets you gain slowly and consistently without getting fat (depending on your body type). Generally, over the period of a week, you have high, medium, and low carb days. That's all I know, plus you eat more carbs on workout days.
