Facebook is an odd thing. For example, sometimes I hear from a high school friend who wants to connect. So I connect. But there's still never any message between us, no "Hi, what's up?" or "Wow, so great to see you again," much less, "Hey, let's get together." Just a request to connect and nothing more.

So we connect -- but we still haven't communicated since 11th grade. Which makes me wonder what the whole point is. If the other party isn't worth a two-sentence 'hello', why bother to connect at all? Or is it just to get a high number of "friends" on your list so everyone thinks you're popular?

I think that is *exactly* the point - both on Facebook and on every other Networking space...: 'I must be loved, see: I have thousands of friends!'

Facebook, like any site or thing in life, is what you make of it. Stop blaming the internet for you or your friends being socially retarded.

Can we rename this thread to:

"How Humans Continue to be low integrity and idiotic with new technologies."

That puts the onus where it should be as badmikeyt and zdrew mentioned.

You are exactly right. The internet or site(s) are not to blame. Rather it is Al Gore's fault for inventing the internet. LOL

I have a Facebook account, but I haven't been updating it or using it. The same goes for my Twitter and MySpace accounts. I guess my age is showing because I find all three sites kind of silly.
