I've always been curious as to why anyone would choose the Porn Industry as a career. Particularly those guys who are older and are have skills to do other things in the mainstream. This is not an indictment, criticism or judgement, just a question. I suppose this question could be asked of anyone, but I'm interested in Gay male point of view.

From my perspective, once this choice is made many other doors are closed as a career path. This being said I feel that any adult should have the freedom to make any life choices he chooses within the law.

you could say the same of any career path.

i am a trained dancer, so it seemed i was ill-fated to be a teacher to live. i hated being an educator, but once i'd gotten some experience in it, it was the only career i could get any additional experience in. every career opens and closes doors.

here are the blogs i have written on this subject:

Well, taking part in porn can be a creative endeavor, as much as other forms of acting or physical performance. You get to exhibit yourself (usually with others) and, hopefully, enjoy some form of sex at the same time. The pay may also be good on a per-hour comparison.

There are cases of people who do it out of a desperation, but their cases should not undermine that some people genuinely enjoy it as a field of work.

Keep in mind that a few people do it for free as well.

As a follow-up question, why don't more of us do porn (whether for pay or for free)? Why do we, possibly, restrict ourselves from expressing ourselves sexually to our fellow humans?

The idea of doing porn is kind of exciting, the reality of doing it would be horrible.

My friend that I help out started doing it cause its always been such a fantasy of his. I find this weird my self, but whatever melts his butter.

He wants to move to LA so its ''easier'' for him to get work and what not. I advised him that he should maintain his residence here where we live so he is not immersed in that culture all the time. I kind of feel it can lead to drug use and other things that go along with this particular industry.

I keep doing the "Marge Simpson" groan at him....

Can you really call appearing in a few porn movies a career?

Surely, a career is something that is going to last you for many years and will provide a steady, dependable income.

Porn is so disposable, its main draw for the viewer is that there is an endless supply of fresh faces.

You miss the point about porn sex. It is not recreational it's your job. You start at 9am and finish at 5pm with an hour for lunch. You don't get to say when it's over, the director says when you finish, what position you get into and when you cum.

That was my friend's primary complain. He was with a scene partner and NOT attacted to him at all.

That is not a smart comment to make considering all it is is an assumption while DancerJack and Rocco will testify otherwise.

Love what you said! Couldnt agree more. I've been offered a few times to do it and turned it down. I want something that will last me for a long time in life with out later negatives.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is a SHOOT. On a set with a whole crew, lighting etc. Even outside. I know people who have done it. They themselves say it is not like having sex one on one with someone. There is so much edited with commercial porn.

So if you are not attracted to the person and can't get it up. what happens? do you not get paid? do you get replaced? do you become the bottom? can you decide to substitue a dildo or a fist or is there some sort of script, minimal though it may be?

and why are you supposed to be attracted to the person?

It's your job to perform. If you can't, you'll get fired I imagine.

It's not like there are millions of guys that are doing it

But yes it has been glamorized
What can be greater than having great sex with really hot men

Without thinking that when you do so there is going to be at least a dozen other people around
telling you .... ok move over here ..... you're not doing this right
and the light's not good this way

and also .... we've come a long way
but once that video is made .... it's there for inperpetuity (forever)
and there have been lots of guys who have lost jobs because of it

so all in all .... grab a hot guy
and make believe you Cecil B DeMille icon_cool.gif

I often wonder if guys consider all of the negatives. For instance you can forget ever being a school teacher. The possibility of more mainstream acting is out the window.

The porn models I know do it mainly for the money. They are willing to sell their body for several thousands of dollars. But, most porn models do not do it as a career. The majority have other employment. Many do porn modeling in college to pay for their education. As a photographer I have been asked to do a test shoot for a str8 guy who wants to work in the gay for pay porn industry. The agency wants me to take several shots of him clothed and in various stages of undress and also totally nude, including fully erect.

I was always under the impression that if you can't perform, they give you Viagra.

I've thought about doing porn, but I like getting into sex, that whole starting and stopping stuff they do, it just wouldn't work for me..

I thought about doing it because it'd be fun and different and probably an interesting life experience..

I have never done porn but if I had the body (and I'm workin' really freakin' hard on it) I would
