Does your Doctor any treat you based on how much money he can make?

Or does he fix what is wrong with you?
Obama claims they don't fix us they look for the most money. So everyone that has cancer does not need chemo because it just a way for the doctors to make more money and has nothing to do with making them better. Or anyone with any sickness is not being treated for what they have but for what makes the doctor the most money.

You can find this story on any network, so don't blame fox every network carried it.
And your President believes this. I wonder how fast his doctor will drop him, since all his does is find ways to make money and not fix him.

I got referred for surgery that I thought was bogus......and it sure smelled like the motivation was to make some $ rather than meet my best medical needs.

My dad's a retired doc, so I'm hardly hostile to the profession. For the record, my dad had questions about their call as well.

And since my company went out of business in the economic bust which means there's no COBRA, I'd sure bet they (my family practice guy and the surgeon) wouldn't be suggesting the surgery now, if they had to do it pro bono.

It's human nature to exploit things to your benefit, and for all that most docs are there for the right reasons, they are human too.

No, my doctor treats me because he's my doctor... I don't pay. A comfort of knowing living in Canada.

Not all Doctors do that. But there are that do. I think thats his point, Its to cut down on those doctors who do. you can also eliminate that by getting more opinions from other physicians.

Yes, you pay for it, through high income tax, consumption taxes, provincial health care premiums etc... let's not blow smoke and pretend healthcare is free in Canada, it most definitely is not.

It amazes me how some people point the finger at supposed problems with other countries' health care systems, but act like nothing could improve our system here. The USA is the envy of the world for expensive health care: we spend more on it than any country, and health emergencies are the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the USA. Who's proud of that?

I hate scare stories of "rationed health care." Health care IS rationed in the USA: usually by which insurance plan you have, what procedures your plan approved, or whether you can afford to remortgage a house if it's serious enough. The inefficiency of the system means everyone with insurance is indirectly paying for inefficient ER care for everyone, rationed by how long you're willing to wait to be seen.

Our present system is not even good at delivering a healthy population: Americans are sicker, suffer more infant deaths and have lower life expectancy.

We deserve to get more and better service from our government. In most coutries, for about the same as we pay in taxes, you get free health care for life, free higher education, and better roads, rail and airports. We're getting a raw deal. Thank God, Obama thinks we can do better.

Hey, not that anyone's likely to care but maybe you weren't reading carefully because, I, the doc's son, did not agree with the original premise.....precisely the opposite. I agreed with Obama that there are doctors who are misusing the health care system to their financial benefit. That was my direct experience.

Im not pointing a finger, I currently live in Canada, have lived in Australia with a mixed public/private system and have experienced emergency care and surgical procedures in the US.

The Canadian System is just as broken as any other. My family that live in the US pay a quarter of the income tax I do, have private health insurance and much better access to services than I do here in Canada.

On a recent trip I had to visit the ER and was in a Dr's care within 10 minutes of arriving, this would never happen in Canada unless I was a cardiac patient or arrived by ambulance. A standard wait is several hours in Canada before clearing triage.

Access to surgery is days in the US not years as in Canada, my point is the system here is not free, and the service levels are no where near those of the private system in the US.

And here I was enthused about some real discussion about costs of health care providers... including dentists (which I have some agreement with the premise question of Football...) and then disappointment that its just another way of attacking Obama.

Well its early, maybe the quality of discussion will improve with the day....

Maybe if Doctors got paid a fair wage they would not have to "milk" the system and start to treat and diagnose which is what they are suppose to do!

hmmmm... Let's see some numbers RTS2009 regarding this,

"The Canadian System is just as broken as any other. My family that live in the US pay a quarter of the income tax I do, have private health insurance and much better access to services than I do here in Canada."

...it should be noted that part of Canada's problem is the US system. It lures Canadian doctors and nurses away with enormous wages and perks.

An example is a gal I worked with. She was offered 80,000 US and a free house and property, as well as 100% paid health insurance to start as an RN.

No wonder your system is so expensive.

For profit medicine is driven by PROFIT. That's how it works. 2.5 months ago, I tore my right distal bicep tendon. I'm uninsured. My P.A. LAUGHED at me and said, "Good luck getting a doctor to see you without insurance.!!! ROFL" I had no less than 8 doctors flat out refuse to even TALK to me. The President is right on track.

I called my congressman. Dr. Burgess, from District 26. His staff told me universal care was the wrong thing and that I'd have to wait for service (I don't believe that, but, that would be better than nothing). Burgess's staff told me they'd get a case worker assigned and that they'd call me back. They never did. "You'll just have to do the best you can."

When I call the doctor's office, the first thing they want to is if I'm a "self-pay" or insured. If I'm self-pay, the call generally ends there.

If I dial 911 for a fire, they'll come put the fire out, without asking me for my insurance card. Same thing for police. Same thing for the library. The schools. The road. The park. The V.A. Medicare. We're surrounded by a LONG list of social services, yet the GOP, is using scare tactics. We think more of our structures than we do of our country man. That says a HORRIBLE thing about us as a society. All regular countries have universal health care, not because it lowers costs, or prevents disease, but because it's the right thing to do.

Most private bankruptcies involve medical bills.

Had we had universal care, I would have had my arm fixed 2 months ago, more cheaply, and with a better long term outcome. The backwards, selfish, scare tactics of the GOP are beyond sickening, literally, and figuratively. They should be ashamed of how they've behaved.

There are many doctors making 5 million a year, or better. Very few have to worry about money. No one would begrudge them a good living, but, living like a king on the backs of sick people?
