What do you need from your gym that they DON'T offer?

Seems like gyms now offer the same old things without trying to help their clients actually get healthy, stronger. What would you like to see your gym offer that it currently does not offer?

No shirt policy for hot guys. LOL

Off the top of my head I'd like to see:
*Additional pull-up dip stations, without weights. Right now we have one with both stations on one side and everyone wants to use it.
*A neck machine to help develop and strengthen my pencil neck.
*Overall more 45lb plates - I have to round them up from all over the gym just for my leg press!

How about what they can get rid of? Say about 25% of the other people there. It's always crowded, no matter when I go.

I agree 100% there!

Jokes aside,I think my gym needs to duplicate some of the equipment it has alreayd. My gym has one set of cables and they are always being used. One pull up bar, etc. when it gets busy, it can really slow you down.

SF Bay Club: No complaints. Love it.

24 Hr Fitness: Oh dear.
1. They could make it mandatory for people to bring towels.
2. Clean the gym a little more.
3. They could be a little firm on the locker room sleezeballs. Provide doors to the shower stalls.
4. Instruct its members on gym etiquette while signing them up. No gargling at the drinking fountain, no shouting in english (or your native tongue) with your weights. No hogging gym machines while being on the cell phone.
5. I wouldn't use an Indoor pool or steam/ sauna there, so I dont mind them not offering it.
6 Good music would be nice.

The chain of gyms I use have up to date stuff and I couldn't really ask for anything more. I guess, if I had to pick something, I'd like it if the local branch I go to had treadmills where you could just punch in your speed, hit enter, and it would automatically adjust.

Both of the 24 Hour locations I go to are a bit run down.

For the West Hollywood location, I'd love for them to fix broken equipment promptly. I'd love for them to keep the hot tub in working order and to get the chlorine mix right so there aren't always so many suds.

For the Beverly Hills location: I want to thank them for the new Precor treadmills and adaptive machines. They're great! My quads have been killing me the past week and I love them. But how about finally fixing the A/C once and for all. Two summers in a row and every workout I feel like I'm doing that steam room yoga thing. How about fixing the bench in the men's sauna and replacing the wood handle from the door so I don't burn my hand stepping out. How about adding an additional set of 20, 25, and 30 lb. dumb bells.

And for both, California is having a fucking water shortage. Could you please replace the shower heads with low flow heads and educate the water hogs to control their water use, please? I know they're all just in their cruising until they find someone to jack off with -- to each their own -- but maybe they could save some water while they're doing it?

Many thanks.

^ I think all the 24 Hour locations are getting cardio machine upgrades. For the longest time, the cardio machines remained broken at mine. But I guess they didn't want to waste time repairing them, since new machines were coming.

Anyways, I would love to see dedicated pull-up bars. The only pull-up bars we have are the ones that are attached the cable stations. Also, more squat racks. We only have one. And it seems people never use them for squats.

A couple of FreeMotion machines I just love: a squat machine (theirs has this awesome concave foot platform), and calf machine.

Oh, and echo on having more of the hot guys above AND a shirtless gym (if said men were in attendance). I'd even take Peter Griffin in the negotiations.

I love working out on my bowflex at home. I have the dvd's to use as I do my reps, so I actually have my own personal trainer.
I plan on getting a trendmill also.

bike racks!!!!!! so i can ride to the gym, getting my warm up and cardio in before working out!!!

A squat rack.

For the most part, I like my gym -- it's clean, modern, open, bright and reasonably well maintained with a good selection of equipment. But all we have for squatting is a smith machine. It's not terrible, but 1) it's not as good as a squat rack and 2) it gets used for a lot of things by people, so is frequently busy.

Admittedly, a minor complaint

Towels located on every floor. I hate it when I forget to grab a towel in the locker room and have to go back down 3 floors to get one.

More squat machines. 2 isnt enough for a major metropolitian gym.

and more guys like Mickeytopogigo.

I'd like complimentary towel service, which I've had in other places. And that their male trainers & attendants be dressed only in jock straps.

1. A better cleaning staff / pest control. Watching a cockroach walk around on the ceiling while you're looking up at it doing bench presses is kind of disconcerting.
2. A higher percentage of working machines. I understand stuff gets broken. Just...fix it. And "fixing it" does not mean the jankiest possible solution. For example, novelty keychain carabiners are not appropriate replacement parts for the cable machines.
3. A membership that actually re-racks their #$%*ing weights and returns dumbbells to the correct location. Dumbbell hunting is not my favorite pastime.
I could ask for an improved music mix but I'm not greedy.

1) A private area with old school plates and dumbells instead of these rubber coated pieces of shit and lame machines that all gyms fill themselves up with now.

2) A "gym cop". Someone who walks around with a whistle and a bat to get on these assholes who think they are to good to strip the plates off and put'em back when they are done.

peace!

how about small workout rooms with a large tv for all those great workout DVDs like P90X. Spend a little more on the rooms and some minor equip and you dont have to pay for instructors.

I would like

Rings
A few more TVs on the elliptical machines

Nothing else I can say is realistic

A tennis court outside probably. It's mostly racquetball courts and their lame tournaments.

I would like the water in coolers with lemon and cucumbers. haha

Free massage from hot, blond, semi naked, dutch muscle guys..

OK. IŽm between gyms, having just moved (again). IŽll be looking for something with free weights and a good, helpful staff. A sauna would be nice, and a pool amazing...WeŽll see

I would say a variety of nutrition and cooking classes. A gym with cooking classes? I think some modest classes along these lines would be very helpful.
I've not seen anything offered along those lines. I should probably bug em.

hmm... a locker in the lockerroom, not the hallway outside of it, a connecting path so the pool, not having to walk 5 minutes to get to the pool, having towel service at the pool, and the entrance swipe is on the left hand side, very odd for a right-handed person.

I go to a tiny little gym in my tiny little town, so the list is long -

A spinning class
High impact aerobics (hell, any aerobics that don't involve little old ladies)
More than one personal trainer on staff
A masseuse (sp?)
Shower stalls (fat old men, ick)
Different music

I've worked out since I was in high school - in a variety of gyms and plush health clubs. I like the hard core gyms better though..... I don't really need fluffy gyms, or some of the kinds of people they often attract. I"m there to get in a hard work out.

A steam room like the ones I read about in this forum.

Sep 15, 2009 4:00 PM GMT
A dedicated squat rack would be nice. Otherwise, I have no complaints. I always see the staff on top of ladders cleaning the light fixtures and HVAC vents. It's rare to hop on a piece of cardio equipment that is wet with sweat. The members seem to always rack their weights (or the staff is quick in putting things back). While it is not a hard core gym, people are there to work out and don't talk on their cell phones. This summer, the gym put in a small refrigerator with towels soaked in eucalyptus which was a nice touch.

i like this idea, jockstraps and gymshoes for the trainers, speedos for the lifeguards, and towels for the attendants, small towels that is.

i work out at a Y, nice enough, a mix of free weights and cable machines. i used to be a member of holiday health spa, and i miss the steam room and jacuzzi. great ways to relax, or, if you felt under the weather, the steam was great for your respiratory system, i do miss that.

oh, fewer people who use their cellphones while working out would be nice too, it ties up the equipment when people talk and don't work out.
