“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” - Joshua 24:15
Filet Mignon. Bourbon Steak. Chicken Marsala. Shrimp Lover’s Platter.

I didn’t know what entrée to choose from the fancy restaurant’s menu. So many choices made it very difficult.

The hardest and most difficult choice of all is to choose God. In fact, it’s a choice that we can’t even make on our own, because by nature we (along with all mankind) are spiritually dead. A dead car battery can’t jumpstart itself. Likewise, a spiritually dead person can’t jolt himself to spiritual life. It can’t and won’t happen. The only choice that we can make by nature is to continue rejecting God.

God is so good. The choice we can’t and won’t make on our own – he makes for us!

In the Bible we are told that God chose us to be his dearly loved children before time began. In time he sent both his Son to pay for our sins and his Holy Spirit to bring us to faith through the gospel. You can be 100% sure of your salvation because God has done it all for you.

While we can’t cooperate with God in our salvation, we do work with God in our Christian living. Yet as we daily choose to serve him and follow his will for our lives, we do so with the strength that Christ gives us through his Word and promises.

The next time you are at a restaurant and are having a hard time choosing what to eat, remember that God has already chosen you!
Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for bringing me to faith in Jesus as my Savior. Help me daily to follow him and serve him with my life. Amen.
